  • Permanent Position
  • Full Time – 37 hours per week – Monday to Friday
  • Mobile based Operative – Based at County Hall, Taunton, however, the role involves County wide travel.
  • 28 days leave (Plus Bank Holidays)

We’re working to improve the lives of people in Somerset – and you’ll be a key part of that. Your day-to-day work will involve:

  • Responsible for reactive and planned preventative maintenance for plumbing systems in a commercial environment across the Somerset Council estate.
  • Respond to emergency plumbing issues, providing timely and effective repairs to minimise disruption and damage.
  • Inspecting, testing and maintaining plumbing fixtures, pipework, valves, pumps and tanks
  • Responding to emergency plumbing issues against KPI’s, providing timely and effective repairs to minimise disruption and damage
  • Installing and replacing plumbing equipment such as taps, showers, sinks, toilets, water heaters and boilers
  • Diagnosing and troubleshooting faults and malfunctions in plumbing systems and components
  • Liaising with customers, contractors and suppliers to ensure quality standards and customer satisfaction
  • Always complying with health and safety regulations and best practices
  • Participate, on a rota basis, in the out of hours call out response, to make safe and provide suitable repairs
  • Working with other trade teams delivering joint solutions
  • Have excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise and handle multiple tasks
  • Work independently and efficiently, without close supervision, while maintaining communication with the team and the customers
  • Demonstrate initiative and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and quality standards

We offer ongoing support, training and guidance to help you be the best you can be. But it will really help if you have:

  • Relevant professional or trade qualifications (NVQ Level 2 in plumbing or equivalent).
  • Critical thinking and problem solving.
  • Experience of professional and trade activities to systems and appliance including appropriate health and safety activities.
  • Thorough understanding of control systems and fault finding.
  • Attention to detail and precise working.
