University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us.Please see below for a detailed job description for the role.Main duties of the jobThe Biomedical Imaging Unit (BIU) is a central imaging facility which carries out diagnostic and research microscopy for both University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust and the University of Southampton.The BIU team of 13 staff carries out electron microscopy on a broad range of diagnostic specimens in addition to carrying out research for the Faculty of Medicine and the wider University. This nationally important unit is extremely well equipped with 2D and 3D imaging equipment using light, X-ray and electron microscopes.Attached you will find the person specification document which provides more detail about the essential and desirable skills and experience needed for this role. We are looking for a candidate who holds a relevant degree and has experience in laboratory work. The successful candidate will be responsible for the ultramicrotomy and electron microscopy of research and diagnostic samples, supervising NHS staff members as well as facility users, and day to day running of the BIU.An excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and suitably experienced individual to contribute to a rapidly developing service. The department operates 6am-6pm Mon-Fri.This post also present excellent opportunities for personal development and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is also actively supported. The laboratory is UKAS accredited.The Main responsibilities and skills required for the roles will include:Undertake processing of specimens for research and diagnostic electron microscopy.Ultramicrotomy and electron microscopy analysis of research and diagnostic specimensTo supervise training and support both NHS staff and facility users as directed and required.Assist in day to day running of the BIU, including but not limited to administrative tasks, general housekeeping, data entry and quality management.Provide accurate, timely, and appropriate analytical data/results.Deliver a high-quality service that meets the needs of the patients and service users.Attention to detail, working under pressure, teamwork and well-developed interpersonal skills.The ideal candidate will have laboratory experience.
