Join us.Job DescriptionJob SummaryAECOM’s is recruiting for a Principal Structural Engineer who will work on a portfolio of projects within the Midlands Structures Team. The main purpose of this role is to lead in the growth and development of the AECOM buildings business (structures). You will be providing management, design and analysis solutions to building structures problems.The successful candidate will be expected to play a key role on a range of structural engineering design projects for public and private sector clients. Projects will generally be within the Midlands region. Some projects may be international requiring occasional travel to meetings and construction sites. The role will also involve working in multi-disciplinary engineering teams drawing on resources in other UK Offices.The successful candidate will be expected to have a keen interest in Building Structures and a strong desire to develop commercially, managing their projects across multiple disciplines having already developed a strong technical capability.Job Duties

  • Take responsibility for the management of projects, developing initial structural design solutions for consideration by the wider project team.
  • Leading by example, work winning, value engineering and technology along with operation control skills are essential.
  • Manage and supervise the preparation of structural calculations by junior engineers.
  • Oversee and verify suitability of any structural analysis and design using both computer & hand techniques.
  • Contribute to the independent technical review of analyses prepared by others.
  • Manage the project delivery in order to provide clients with results on time and budget.
  • Supervise and mentor junior engineers undertaking design of structures using current British Standards and Eurocodes.
  • Have a desire to learn new skills and the ability to consider the wider engineering issues related to the work being undertaken.
  • Coordinating with other professional like architects, MEP engineers, contractors, etc.
  • Analysing problems and developing innovative solutions.
  • Provide high level value engineering led technical expertise when applying structural engineering principles, techniques and methods to the planning and design of building design projects.
  • Appreciation of Integrated Project Delivery approach and technologies.
  • Ensure all quality and environmental aspects of the project are identified and addressed to maintain effective operation and project delivery.

Minimum Qualification

  • Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering
  • Masters in Structural engineering (preferable)
  • Preferably Chartered or achievable within the next year.

  • 10-15 years of experience working in the delivery of Structural Engineering design projects.
  • Essential understanding of project finance, project delivery and contracts.
  • Preferable experience of design in commercial, retail, hospitality, residential, manufacturing and high rise projects using latest design and construction technologies. Design of large office blocks and Airport Projects will be an added value.
  • Design experience in international projects would be an excellent plus.
  • Experience in the design of the heavy and medium industrial steel structures will be added plus.
  • Must have knowledge of governing structural design standards Eurocodes, BS, Building Regulations etc.
