This position is for a five-year term, renewable for a second term after review.The effective date of this appointment is flexible, tentatively aiming for July 2025.The Division of Neurosurgery at the University of Toronto is world renowned and is home to the largest training program for Neurosurgery in North America. The Dan Chair in the Division of Neurosurgery is responsible for all academic activities and residency training in the Division and plays a coordinating role for activities that traverse the 5 divisions at our fully and partially affiliated teaching sites. The Division of Neurosurgery has 34 full time clinical faculty members, 6 part time /adjunct clinical faculty members, 8 affiliate scientists, and 32 residents training within five major teaching hospitals. Together, members of the University Division perform over 15,000 operative cases annually.The successful candidate should ideally possess demonstrated leadership skills in hospital-based, University, or other organized neurosurgery programs, and should have an established record of scholarly achievement, hold current research funding for their personal research programs, be eligible for a graduate appointment and currently hold the rank of Full Professor. An international profile as an academic neurosurgeon and a reputation as an outstanding clinical surgeon are essential. The position is not restricted to any particular clinical focus and candidates from both adult and paediatric neurosurgical fields will be considered. The appropriate hospital site for the Chair’s clinical activities is to be negotiated with the successful candidate, should they be an external candidate. The successful candidate should hold / be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or its international equivalent), and be eligible for medical licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO).Total salary will be within the range of $600 – 800K, as well as commensurate with qualifications and experience. This estimate is based on fee for service billings, hospital- and university-based support.Interested candidates should submit a 2 – 2 ½ page letter of intent outlining their motivation in applying for the position.
