A centralresponsibility is to ensure all DHRC@FHI programs are implemented at a high level of quality,efficiency, inclusivity, and equity.The position reports to the Director or Co-Directors of the DHRC@FHI with an indirectreport to the Assistant Director of Finance and Administration. The position provides supervisionfor graduate and undergraduate student employees.Work performedProgram Design, Management and Assessment (40%)The Program Coordinator will help plan, implement and assess all DHRC@FHI programmaticactivities as well as expand existing programs in consultation with the Faculty Advisory Board.

  • Advise and mentor over 50 undergraduates in pursuing and completing the Human Rights

Certificate.

  • Coordinate with academic departments and the Registrar about Certificate courses and

organize informational events, take part in undergraduate outreach like Blue Devil Daysand majors fairs, create promotional materials, and meet with interested students.

  • Design and implement assessment of the Certificate with the Office of Assessment.
  • Contribute to the vision of DHRC@FHI through participating in Center leadership

structures. Compile and provide programmatic and financial information for theDHRC@FHI Executive Committee and Faculty Advisory Board including timelines forevents, application review deadlines and budgets. Annually review and evaluate efficacyof programs.

  • Collaborate with other Human Rights units on Duke’s campus and community partners,

including the Human Rights Archives, the Pauli Murray Center for History and SocialJustice, and The Human Rights Law Clinic to plan and implement joint programming.

  • Manage application process, selection and distribution of awards for the Oliver Koonz

Prize in Human Rights and the Human Rights Summer Research Grants.

  • Help develop grant proposals and facilitate implementation of awarded grants in

collaboration with the DHRC@FHI Executive Committee.

  • Manage day-to-day operations of DHRC@FHI, including program coordination,

executive committee and advisory board meetings and minutes, communications, financial tracking, etc. Coordinate program activities and maintain budgets for public or university events.Ensure that logistical arrangements for speakers are in place including travel,accommodations, transportation and /or Webinars and Zoom meetings. Coordinateprogram production in FHI venues and off-site programs including catering andvideography for all annual events including the Juan Méndez Award, the Rights and the Humanities, Rights! Camera! Action! series, and Global Ideas, Local Impact.

  • Ensure that compensation and reimbursements for all program participants are processed

in a timely and efficient manner. Understand and implement Duke policies andprocedures pertaining to international visitors and foreign nationals. Arrange financialcontributions and provide support for all faculty and student cosponsored events.Community Partnership and Engagement (20%)

  • Develop and maintain partnerships for human rights-based community engagement and engaged scholarship in collaboration with faculty. The Program Coordinator has a critical leadership role in terms of education and community engagement.
  • Cultivate off campus partnerships and relationships with community organizations that

support faculty engaged scholarship, such as the DHRC@FHI-led partnership with theChurch World Service Refugee Resettlement program.

  • Help create opportunities for undergraduate and graduate student participation in the

DHRC@FHI’s community engagement and engaged scholarship.

  • Provide organizational support to campus-wide partnerships and collaborations.
  • Represent the DHRC@FHI at community and University functions and regional and

national meetings, as needed.Communications (15%)Oversee the creation of all DHRC@FHI web, social media, and newsletter content.

  • Develop marketing and communications strategies that coordinate the release of online

and print publicity materials.

  • Coordinate public relations activities: conceptualize and write newsletters that include

Center updates, student opportunities and upcoming events. Author original content(promotional materials, publications, press releases, presentations, etc.) as needed. Create web content, update and maintain website, acting as website administrator.

  • Manage media relations and maximize media opportunities.

Supervision (20%)

  • Manage 2-3 work study undergraduates.
  • Coordinate with the DHRC@FHI Student Advisory Board (20+ students).
  • Advise 50+ Human Rights Certificate students.
  • Manage contracted employees

Budget Management (5%)Work closely with the Assistant Director of Finance and Administration on financial policies andprocedures for DHRC.

  • Prepare DHRC@FHI budgets; monitor, verify and reconcile expenditure of budgeted funds; prepare financial statements reflecting status of programs and activities. Capital: $250,000-$300,000.
  • Prepare reports as appropriate for the DHRC@FHI Executive Committee.

ExperienceWork requires analytical, communications, and organizational skills generally acquired throughcompletion of a bachelor’s degree program. This position requires at least 3 years of experiencein program administration with significant budget management.Job Skills Required

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written;
  • Event planning and logistics experience;
  • Experience engaging with faculty and assisting programing;
  • Knowledge in social justice education, equity and/or multicultural education;
  • Experience managing budgets, account reconciliation, and reporting;
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse constituencies;
  • Experience managing student workers and advising students;
  • Experience leading teams of collaborators in community partnerships.
