The base
We moved into our new HQ in the City of London in 2018. We’re close to our clients, in the heart of the UK’s financial centre. And we have everything we need to work flexibly.
Role Purpose
The programmes led by the successful individual will enable continuing corporate growth and optimisation through the effective delivery of programmes that, in close partnership with business stakeholders, enable more flexible and efficient services, ensure compliance to regulations, improve customer experience and service, improve use of technology, onboard new business solutions, reduce risk, realise target operating models, and deliver leaner processes.
The role holder will be able to interact with internal and external parties, be a credible and role model level change professional and engender trust in both the internal change process and Schroders as an exemplary partner for our external clients.
We require an individual with an excellent track record of shaping and delivering large programmes across Technology and Business disciplines. It is expected that the individual will manage a team of direct reports and manage many more in a matrix environment.
The Programme Manager will be accountable to the Head of Enterprise Change Delivery but will also work significantly with business sponsors, the Group Head of Business Transformation, and the Global Technology Senior Management Team.
What you’ll do
- Support the initiation and mobilisation of programmes as required;
- Lead the delivery of group-wide programmes and projects across a range of initiatives;
- Manage an assigned delivery portfolio within the scope of Enterprise Change responsibilities;
- Collaborate with business and senior stakeholders and be a trusted advisor in order to define and deliver against business outcomes and ensure clear, consistent reporting;
- Be accountable for the design and implementation of appropriate target operating models to enhance and embed the transformational process;
- Support the management of a programme team with matrix management requirements of the departments from which they will be provided;
- Hire appropriate additional staff to meet the objectives of the programmes as per an agreed recruitment plan;
- Effective planning, with the ability to construct, present and effectively communicate a range of roadmaps and detailed plans to diverse audiences;
- Manage communication of progress and changes to the wider organisation;
- Drive change at pace through excellent cross-functional working;
- Ensure financial diligence & reporting of the programme is adhered to working to secure delivery within budget;
- Excellent risk and issue management;
- Proactively manage dependencies across the programme and to/from adjacent programmes of work and
- Successfully negotiate organisational challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Have direct line management responsibility for a small team of project managers;
- Be an active participant in the recruitment and onboarding process for internal and external hires across the Business Transformation team;
- Practice, develop and promote the use of Business Transformation standards for change, whilst adapting agreed methodologies to effectively support a range of scenarios;
- Pro-actively contribute to the evolution of an Enterprise Change ‘Centre of Excellence’;
- Mentor and support the development of change expertise across Schroders through involvement in other non-core activities;
- Support the culture of personal development across Schroders change resources and manage talent and succession planning strategies;
- Provide pro-active and clear leadership in a range of scenarios and circumstances and
- Be a pro-active member of the Enterprise Change Delivery management team.
The knowledge, experience and qualifications you need
- Understanding of a range of delivery methodologies;
- Good knowledge of change tools and techniques and the demonstration of their appropriateness;
- Proven delivery record of driving organisational and business change programmes with multi-million-pound budgets to agreed timescales and deadlines;
- Demonstrable experience of driving transformational change in complex environments;
- Able to demonstrate a range of transformational change capabilities that will enable programme leadership across a range of delivery portfolios which may include:
- Commercial and Solutions;
- Regulatory;
- Corporate;
- Strategic Cross-Group Change;
- Ability to manage and motivate diverse sets of teams across multiple functions;
- Evidence of multiple senior stakeholder management;
- Strong consultative skills with the ability to collaborate when appropriate and influence across a broad, senior stakeholder base;
- A good understanding of the application of target operating models, design frameworks and Business Architecture capabilities;
- Ability to deliver difficult messages where necessary and the ability to explain complex concepts in a clear and concise manner to stakeholders;
- Evidence of resolving challenging issues and contributing to end state solution;
- Able to make trade-offs to ensure priority value items are delivered and
- Can drive to make decisions.
The knowledge, experience and qualifications that will help
- Extensive experience and detailed knowledge of Asset Management;
- Experience of managing large teams, both directly and in matrix frameworks;
- Basic professional qualifications relating to the asset management industry and programme management practises;
- A broad experience across Schroders domains would be beneficial and
- Educated to at least undergraduate degree level.
