Under the supervision of Dr. Harper, the Project Coordinator (PC) will work with researchers, students, and government representatives to foster networks around climate-health issues and advance climate change resilience across health-determining sectors. The role will focus on mobilizing the goals of the Climate Change and Health Hub, particularly strengthening cross-sector training for climate-resilient and low-carbon health systems and climate health awareness.Duties

  • Participating in in-person climate-health education outreach that may involve short travel within Alberta, working with science centres, schools, youth and environmental organizations, and professional development groups.
  • Applying for grants to support student intern training and education activities, ensuring grant conditions are consistently met, and conducting regular scans to identify funding opportunities.
  • Supporting monitoring and evaluation of training, outreach, and awareness activities.
  • Collaborating with other organizations on the University of Alberta campuses and furthering the Climate Change and Health Hub’s (CCHH) connections with local organizations, researchers, and community partners.
  • Organizing recurring cross-sectoral lecture series (Climate Health Action Talks or CHATs), Hackathons, Climate Community Connection (C3) activities, and other outreach events about climate change and health.
  • Engaging with a diverse range of external stakeholders and agencies at the local, provincial, national, and international level to promote evidence-based decision-making.
  • Preparing and delivering project reports to various audiences including stakeholders, government partners and the general public.
  • Working in a spirit of co-creation with CCHH members and steering committee, providing project management and leadership for new and existing Hub projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, epidemiology, psychology, environmental studies, or related field
  • At least one year of climate change, environmental, or sustainability volunteer or work experience is required.
  • At least one year of experience in project coordination.
  • Experience with event coordination, running workshops, and delivering public events.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining partnerships is an asset.
  • Proficiency with public speaking, setting meeting agendas, and delivering presentations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, Zoom, Canva, and other tools (e.g. Mentimeter, etc).
  • Ability to manage overlapping deadlines, prioritize tasks, and implement strong time-management skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Must be detail-oriented and possess strong skills in public health knowledge translation and environmental communication.
  • Knowledge of the University of Alberta ecosystem, including student groups, institutional organizations, and departmental structure is an asset.
  • Experience with Instagram, LinkedIn, and Bluesky is an asset.
