Regular travel to the Alex Fraser Research Forest in Williams Lake, B.C. will be required.Job SummaryThe Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Academy is a training initiative that is currently in development at the Alex Fraser Research Forest (AFRF) in Williams Lake, BC as a partnership between UBC and FPInnovations. The goal is to provide practical training in the areas of biomass combined heat and power operation, maintenance, and biomass supply chains. Students will also do a variety of online training modules to support the in-person training. Aimed primarily at remote Indigenous communities, workshops will be held at AFRF starting in the winter of 2024/25. The Project Manager will provide coordination for the successful implementation of both the in-person workshops and online training modules, including some content development.This Project Manager works closely with UBC staff and FPInnovations to provide leadership and oversight in CHP’s training module content and curriculum development. The position will manage the online and onsite training processes. This includes planning customized training sessions based on the needs of the community and responding promptly to all general enquiries. This position contributes to the optimal function of the AFRF office by working independently to ensure program requirements are complete, consistent and compliant with relevant Occupational Health and Safety regulations prior to the training. This position is responsible for implementing the project in a professional, efficient, and effective manner.Organizational StatusUnder the general direction of AFRF’s Manager, the successful candidate will report to the Associate Dean Research Forests and Community Outreach, who provides overall strategic management.The Project Manager will work closely with staff of the AFRF and FPInnovations, and will coordinate and supervise contractors as required. The Project Manager will also have a close working relationship with faculty and staff at UBC and external partners.Work Performed

  • Leads, oversees, develops, and updates training module content and curriculum, which includes learning objectives, curriculum structure, instructional methods assessment of learners and the training program as a whole
  • Manages and implements the online and onsite training processes
  • Oversee the process to ensure the program/training is approved as a micro-certificate or diploma
  • Develops communications plan and makes recommendations and decisions on communications activities
  • Develop presentations and reviews of related literature supporting project activities
  • Facilitate group training, including online and in-person learning modules
  • Design and facilitate approaches to community engagement in partnership with local and remote indigenous communities to ensure wide reach
  • Develop workplan for knowledge mobilization activities
  • Coordinate logistics for workshop participants, including transportation and meals
  • Facilitate meetings with partners including community-based organizations and community advisors. Identify themes emerging from consultation activities and make changes to training process and curriculum content
  • Develops course evaluations and gathers feedback from course participants to present qualitative and quantitative data periodically to the Associate Dean, Research Forests, Manager, AFRF and project stakeholders
  • Oversee creation and maintenance of key relationships among relevant partners, First Nations communities, and affiliates to ensure clear, regular communication and facilitate knowledge exchange and mobilization
  • Oversee and manages budgets of approved funding, which includes preparing financial reports and communications with multiple stakeholders
  • Support senior management with recruiting, selecting, evaluating, supervising, and if necessary, terminating contractors.
  • Supervise and train student employees, and may be provide input with hiring and performance.
  • Frequent travel may be required to the Williams Lake, B.C. area to deliver in-person training and meet with project stakeholders
  • Perform other duties as required

Consequence of Error/Judgement
Makes professional decisions and recommendations on all aspects of project implementation. Incorrect work or decisions, or poor judgment could result in lost opportunities, damage to the reputation of the training initiative, damage to community or stakeholder relationships, or other serious impacts on the project and future funding opportunities.Supervision Received
This Project Manager will work with a high level of independence. Supervision will be provided by the Manager of the Alex Fraser Research Forest, with regular check-ins with the Associate Dean Research Forests and Community Outreach.Supervision Given
May supervise contractors and graduate students as hired for this project.Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of four years of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.– Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own– Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusionPreferred Qualifications

  • Experience in project management, coordination, and facilitation
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work with minimal direction and exercise sound judgment and decision-making
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and group facilitation
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office, Sharepoint,
  • Experience working with UBC Canvas an asset
  • Must have Class 5 Driver’s License (Class 4 Driver’s License is an asset)
