About the team

An exciting opportunity to join our award-winning Communities Team, engaging local people
across Hertfordshire, in delivery of projects to realise significant biodiversity gains and
public access improvements on greenspaces and throughout the wider countryside.

About the role

This is a rare opportunity to join our enthusiastic and industrious Service and progress your
career in Countryside Management. You will be involved in delivering practical projects which
result in very significant and meaningful benefits for the wildlife and people of
Hertfordshire.

You will contribute to delivery of a county-wide programme of practical volunteer projects
focused on promotion of biodiversity and enhancement of public access to the countryside. You
will manage a weekly, roaming, conservation volunteer team. You will effectively support
existing Friends Groups and maximise opportunities to develop new groups. You will schedule
work for a regular Rights of Way practical task team and support them in successful delivery.
Provide cover as required for events in other parts of the County.

About you

You must be a good communicator as we work in partnership with a broad range of stakeholders
including landowners, user groups and professional partners daily. Your ability to mobilise
local community voluntary groups in delivery of practical action is crucial and will require
you to demonstrate experience and skill in leadership, support, supervision and motivation of
individuals to ensure the effectiveness and safety of work teams. This is a hands-on role and
work sites are regularly located in remote areas with difficult terrain.

You should be able to demonstrate your understanding and experience of countryside and
greenspace management across a range of sites. You should have experience of managing
conservation volunteers. You will be able to demonstrate excellent time management skills and
the ability to work under your own initiative. You will also have good IT skills including
competency in Microsoft packages. You will be required to travel using your own car or company
vehicles and a DVLA check will be required on appointment.

If this proposition excites you, and you are suitably experienced, we very much look forward to
receiving your application.
