This department comprises several complementary functions focused on the progression of a portfolio of biopharmaceuticals from initial antibody discovery, expression and characterisation, to molecular engineering and biological and physiochemical profiling.Antibody Protein Sciences within LMD have the remit of employing our automated protein expression systems to generate antibodies at multiple scales to support GSK’s ambitious pipeline. We are seeking an experienced enthusiastic, dynamic and self-motivated lab-based scientist to join us in creating the medicines of the future.This role would suit an inquisitive scientist skilled in mammalian cell transfection, culture and protein biochemistry. You will be involved in the use of novel automation solutions, so experience with and enthusiasm for the use of automation and data would be an advantage.In this role you will

• Generate high throughput transient and stable mammalian cell lines expressing panels of molecules (cell maintenance; quality control of cell culture; transfection)
• Perform protein purification using affinity and ion-exchange techniques
• Execute and troubleshoot workflows using Tecan-based automated liquid handling systems
• Design, perform and write up high quality scientific experiments in a timely manner

Why you?Basic Qualifications & Skills:We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

• PhD or equivalent experience in biochemical engineering, cell biology, bioprocessing or a related discipline
• Experience of stable cell line generation and transient transfection
• Experienced in protein purification
• Capable of performing complex data management and data interpretation tasks/analyses
• Good attention to detail in experimental setup, reporting/writing up data and verbal presentation
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in multi-disciplinary teams and display excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:Please note the following skills are not necessary, just preferred, if you do not have them, please still apply:

• Expertise in the use and troubleshooting of automated LiHa (in particular Tecan-based systems)
• Troubleshooting and critique of process workflows
