Login to your McGill Workday account and apply to this posting using the Find Jobs report (type Find Jobs in the search bar).Working in the laboratory of Professor Jack Antel, the research assistant will be involved in research aimed at understanding the molecular mechanisms that regulate myelin production by oligodendrocytes. He/she will be responsible for designing and performing experimental procedures aimed at identifying the functional capacity of such cells derived from mouse brain tissues. The work will involve optimizing tissue culture techniques using synthetic nanofibers, applying immunohistochemical approaches to visualize ensheathment of the fibers by the myelin producing cells, and adapting computer based programs to analyze the extent of ensheathment in response to pharmacologic agents. To achieve these goals, he/she will be expected to provide new ideas and suggestions by reading the literature related to this project. Based on his/her intellectual input, the research assistant will be given the opportunity to be an author on any publication that will derive from the work performed. He/she will participate in discussions aimed at correlating results from the above experiments with parallel studies being performed with human brain derived cells.Hiring unit: MNIThis position is covered by the AMURE Collective agreement.Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing.
