Job Title: Research Assistant (88620)Job Location: Liverpool, UKJob Location Type: HybridJob Contract Type: Full-timeJob Seniority Level: Mid-Senior levelSalary: £33,232 – £37,999 per annumFull- time, fixed-term appointment to 30th June 2026 (part time will be considered)Based in Liverpool with national and international travel as requiredThe Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine is seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant to join our collaborative research team in the Malaria Epidemiology Unit of the Clinical Sciences Department. The unit is involved in teaching, provides technical assistance, and has a strong emphasis on research into the treatment and prevention of malaria in endemic countries.This is an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to contribute to vital global health research investigating the safety of antimalarials used in pregnancy.The successful candidate will contribute to reproductive/perinatal pharmacoepidemiology studies in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs). The candidate will support data analyses from an active multi-centre prospective cohort of pregnant women and their infants. This position offers a unique opportunity to collaborate with an international and multidisciplinary team to develop a pregnancy pharmacovigilance tools suitable for LMICs.There is also the opportunity to become involved in several ongoing and new projects within the group, primarily involving malaria in pregnancy.Key Responsibilities IncludeSupport analyses and report writing from the MiMBa Pregnancy Exposure Registry
- Planning and implementing appropriate data analyses, (develop analysis plan, conduct analysis and presentation)
- Support the interpretation of study results and study reports, and write-up of research projects for publication
- Develop well-structured and documented statistical and data analyses code that maximises reuse
- Support the preparation of scientific publications and conference presentations
- Liaising, working collaboratively with, and providing support to other members of the team and collaborators
Support the development of a comprehensive Pregnancy Pharmacovigilance Toolbox suitable for LMICs
- Support the development of a searchable repository of background rates related to pregnancy outcomes, collaborating with relevant stakeholders
- Conduct literature reviews and data analysis to compile comprehensive background rate datasets for various sites
- Engage with international partners, healthcare professionals, experts in pharmacovigilance, pharmacoepidemiology and perinatal epidemiology to refine the tool’s functionalities
- Develop training materials for healthcare professionals in LMICs on the effective use of the developed tool
Develop novel projects
- Contribute to the writing of research grants/ fellowships in collaboration with PIs
Ideally You Will Be Able To Demonstrate
- Master’s degree in epidemiology, medical statistics or other relevant subject and/or demonstratable professional experience
- Relevant working experience in epidemiology and public health
- Strong numeracy skills with the ability to collate data and accurately conduct basic data analysis, demonstrating meticulous attention to detail
- General understanding of research methods and ability to read, critique and synthesise research literature
- Good presentation skills, including the ability to design and deliver presentations, including research data, both internally and externally
- Programming skills in statistical programs such as R or Stata
- Background in pregnancy pharmacovigilance or perinatal epidemiology, with expertise in pharmacoepidemiologic methods and statistical analysis (desirable)

Circumstances: This post is available from March 2025 on a fixed term basis up to 30th June 2026, with the possibility of extension subject to funding. The post is available at 1.0FTE; however, part-time employment (minimum 0.6FTE) may be considered.
