Job description

We are seeking to appoint a Research Associate, to work within the schools of Psychology and of Social Sciences.The postholder will contribute to a substantive, problem-focused social sciences programme of research investigating the local social, cultural and community impacts, ethical and social acceptability, and upstream responsible innovation implications of carbon removal with enhanced rock weathering.The successful candidate will require a postgraduate degree at PhD level in a related subject area (e.g. geographies of sustainability with multi-modal and visual methodologies) or equivalent or relevant industrial experience and a portfolio of research and/or relevant industrial experience within Cultural and community impacts of place-based proposals for carbon removal technologies and Analysing and reporting research using at least one of the following qualitative methods: community case-study, participatory, psychosocial, multi-modal visual, or deliberative social sciences research methods, and an understanding of issues associated with the role of new technologies in meeting the UK’s net zero climate targets.For informal enquiries, please contact Professor Nick Pidgeon .This post is part time (21 hours per week), is fixed term until 28 February 2026, available from 1 March 2025 and is based in the Cathays Park site.The majority of roles at Cardiff University are currently operating under “blended working” arrangements, with staff having the flexibility to work partly from home and partly from the University campus depending on specific business requirements. Discussions around these arrangements can take place after the successful candidate has been appointed.Salary: £40,247 – £45,163 per annum, pro-rata (Grade 6).
