For informal enquiries, please contact Rachel Spencer (Associate Professor General Practice) at R.spencer.2@warwick.ac.uk.An excellent opportunity has arisen at Warwick Medical School for a hard-working, enthusiastic and self-motivated Research Fellow to work with Dr Rachel Spencer (an NIHR advanced fellow) on a project to improve safety of discharge from hospital for older patients in primary care (GP-MATE). Dr Spencer is an academic GP and lead of the Primary Care Network at WMS; her details can be found here: .This study is more than halfway through and represents a unique opportunity to join a study near to reporting with strong publication prospects in short timescale. Field research is currently in progress and pending a research passport you will be able to commence work in general practice sites quickly. You will work in eight general practices in the West-Midlands on pilot testing an intervention developed in our co-design process last year. We are collecting data direct from patient records (CAG approval in place), and from qualitative interviews (staff and patients) and surveys (patients). There will be data analysis to undertake shortly, leading to high quality publications. In the final stage of the project, you will lead in organising an implementation workshop with local medical leaders to see how we can transition the intervention into routine hospital discharge.This role offers an outstanding opportunity for an early career researcher to gain valuable experience in a range of mixed methods data collection and analysis and to co-author several papers. Our wider study team includes health behaviourists and statisticians from Warwick CTU. If results are favourable, we may look to apply for funding to test the intervention with a definitive trial.This role will require a enhanced DBS check with child’s and adult’s barred list.About YouYou should have a good honours degree and a good Masters or equivalent in a relevant discipline. We require a researcher with knowledge of both qualitative and quantitative analysis with demonstrable experience in both areas in health-related topics. You should have an understanding of patient public involvement (PPI-E) and the processes involved in conducting it.In terms of general skills you should have experience of report writing to a high standard with excellent communication and presentation skills. In order to manage study processes you should demonstrate excellent time management and organisational skills. You should show excellent IT skills and good knowledge of Microsoft office packages.
