For informal enquiries, please contact Nigel Stallard (Professor, Director of Warwick Clinical Trials Unit) at n.stallard@warwick.ac.uk.Warwick Clinical Trials Unit wishes to appoint a Research Fellow to work on part of the EU Horizon project Innovate designs, extrapolation, simulation methods and evidence-tools for rare diseases addressing regulatory needs (INVENTS) led by Professor Sarah Zohar (INSERM, Paris).You will contribute to a work package of this exciting project led by Professor Nigel Stallard at Warwick Clinical Trials Unit and Professor Martin Posch (Medical University of Vienna) that focusses on Increasing robustness of small population confirmatory trials using validated and credible models.Based at Warwick Clinical Trials Unit under the direction of the Professor Nigel Stallard, and in collaboration with the wider project team, you will undertake innovative research, using analytic and simulation approaches to develop and evaluate novel statistical methods. This will involve developing Bayesian borrowing methods and exploring incorporation of PK/PD or in-silico models in the adaptive design of clinical trials that incorporate data from related populations. You will also play a full role in the project, including attending project meetings.You will be encouraged, in collaboration with colleagues in WMS as appropriate, to lead or contribute to grant applications to generate further funding for your research programme. Although this is primarily a research post, there may also be some opportunities for teaching and assisting in the supervision of postgraduate students.We will consider applications for employment on a part-time or other flexible working basis, even where a position is advertised as full-time, unless there are operational or other objective reasons why it is not possible to do so.About YouYou will possess a PhD or equivalent qualification in statistics or a closely related subject or equivalent work experience with expertise in the development of statistical methodology for clinical trial design and analysis and interest or experience in adaptive design methods, Bayesian methods and/or PK/PD modelling. You will also have excellent communication and team-working skills required for a successful collaborative project. Upon receipt of evidence of the successful award of your PhD, you will be promoted to Research Fellow on the first point of level 6 of the .About the DepartmentBased within Warwick Clinical Trials Unit (WCTU), you will be appointed at Warwick Medical School (WMS) at the University of Warwick. WCTU has a strong track record in delivering excellent research that informs clinical practice. Around 20 statisticians provide design and analysis expertise to WCTU’s large portfolio of studies, mostly multicentre clinical trials. WCTU statisticians collaborate widely with other groups in WMS, the wider university such as the internationally renowned department of statistics and the local NHS Trust. Also, based on WCTU trials and individual research interests, they conduct applied statistical methodology research, with multiple ongoing projects funded by MRC-NIHR Better Methods for Better Research Programme. WCTU statisticians support teaching in WMS, from undergraduate to supervising PhD students undertaking statistical methodology research.
