You will work closely with both academics, senior leadership and experts in the professional services to deliver an excellent outcome for the next Research Excellence Framework (REF) in 2029; and you will provide expert practitioner support to the short-, medium-, and long-term planning of research excellence to support the University in striving to undertake world-leading research with global impacts.The Research Planning Manager will have a lead role in the operational management of the University’s annual research planning, and for the development, implementation, and management of aspects of the University’s Research Excellence Framework (REF) submission including data handling and analysis. The postholder will also work closely with R&IS Research Impact, and the RSDMs, on aspects of research planning and REF. The RPM will also provide policy advice and guidance on the intricacies of the assessment framework to academic colleagues and professional services staff, and be a central point of information for queries from academic and administrative staff. The holder will also maintain the project plan and ensure that objectives are communicated well, and milestones are met.About YouThe role will appeal to those who are passionate about supporting research and thrive in fast-moving environment that requires a problem-solving approach. The postholder will have experience in a research planning or REF context and be someone that has expertise in the interpretation and communication of complex policy. The person will also need expertise in utilising systems, processes and be comfortable handling data to deliver the University’s objectives in relation to research excellence. They will be an excellent communicator, able to build professional relationships and establish credibility with key stakeholders. This encompasses support for research strategy; research development; research grants & contracts; research ethics & governance; research culture, research impact; export control, the Research Excellence Framework (REF); research systems & data; statutory returns; programme management of institutional funds to support research & impact, research income planning, & responsibility for the co-ordination of institutional programmes & partnerships such as the Global Research Priorities (GRPs), The Alan Turing Institute (ATI), City of Culture (CoC), Eutopia, Research Theme & the Institute for Global Sustainable Development (IGSD).
