The Xu Lab is hiring for a Research Scientist 1 (Research Scientist/Engineer 1 (NE S UAW RSE)) in the field of mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance and cell death. POSITION PURPOSE

This position will be responsible for understanding the mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance in order to develop new therapies against bacteria that are resistant to antimicrobials and the mechanisms of cell death in order to develop methods to prevent or promote cell death under different biological circumstances.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Major duties include:

Lab Research (50% total)
• Develop new lipidomics, metabolomics, proteomics, and high-throughput screening methods using
• UPLC-ion mobility-mass spectrometry (MS) and high resolution-MS (20%)
• Carry out analysis of biological samples using the newly developed methods (10%)
• Identify and troubleshoot technical issues during the development of mass spectrometry-based methods and develop long-term solutions (20%)

Lab Management (35% total)
• Mentor junior staff in the development of technical, project, and business development skills, such as mass spectrometry techniques, experimental design, data analysis, manuscript writing, and preparing for conference presentations and networking (20%)
• Lead and manage projects that may last years; monitor the work of others and redirect efforts to achieve task/project objectives or enhance quality (10%).
• Manage collaborative projects with collaborators (5%)

Publications (10% total)
• Prepare manuscripts for publication of research findings (5%)
• Sought out for contributions to reports and publications through networking (5%)

Grant writing (5% total)
– Contribute to the draft and revision of grant proposals (5%)

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree in Analytical Chemistry and one year of experience in ion mobility-mass spectrometry, lipidomics, and proteomics, OR Equivalent combination of education/experience.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Doctorate in Analytical Chemistry
• Experience in grant writing
