There are 10 train stations which serve key neighbourhoods within the borough providing direct connections to London Victoria, London Bridge, London Blackfriars and St Pancras International. Sutton also has direct rail connections with Epsom, Dorking, Guildford and Horsham, as well as Wimbledon for an interchange with the London Underground and West Croydon for the London Overground. There’s also an extensive road network which provides close and easy access to the M25 and M23.About the RoleThe Resources Officer will lead consistently high quality, cost-effective and timely business support within Cultural Services, balancing planned and reactive needs.The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • process invoices, record income and ensure a clear audit trail of processed transactions
  • monitor service budgets to ensure expenditure and income are accurately reported, investigating any inaccuracies, ensuring spending remains within budget and contributing to financial forecasts
  • collate, analyse and present statistical and financial data, producing reports for the service and senior management as required
  • take a lead role in the procurement of resources and manage contracts with suppliers, ensuring that the best service is provided within allocated resources
  • support the provision of frontline engagement services, such as development, community activity, arts and heritage activity, and support colleagues in allocating and monitoring funding

Sutton Council’s Cultural Services is made up of a network of eight public libraries, three heritage houses and a year-round cultural programme for all ages. Cultural Services provide a key part of community life in Sutton, supporting everything from early years development, digital literacy and community activities, to study space, cultural celebrations and access to Council services. Sutton Council’s Cultural Framework sets out the Council’s ambition to expand cultural activity in Sutton, supporting the Borough’s approach to developing place, economic growth and community cohesion.About YouThe successful candidate will:

  • have experience of liaising with a wide range of stakeholders, including providing excellent customer service
  • have technical and professional skill and knowledge of using accounting software and spreadsheets to collate and analyse financial data and oversee budgets, as well as process invoices and monitor income and expenditure with a high degree of accuracy
  • be highly organised, self-motivated, able to show initiative and ensure tasks are fully completed to meet tight deadlines
  • have experience of managing or supervising the performance of staff, including motivating and leading them
  • have the skills to produce meaningful financial or data reports for senior management, in order to make recommendations for service improvements and contribute to the delivery of key corporate objectives and the Cultural Strategy
