Come be a part of the team.Job DescriptionMLSE is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Accountant to join our Finance team and provide specialized support to MLSE Foundation (Foundation) and MLSE LaunchPad (LaunchPad). In the role as Senior Accountant, you will work closely with Foundation and LaunchPad groups to accurately report financial results.

  • General accounting duties, including preparation of month-end journal entries, accruals and reconciliations.
  • Analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial results to ensure accuracy, completeness, and reasonability for supported departments.
  • Work with the different lines of business to review significant account variances and acquire explanations.
  • Provide in-depth financial analysis to support Foundation and LaunchPad in delivering against ambitious revenue growth and community investment opportunities.
  • Support the development of annual budgets and forecasts while working closely with the business leads.
  • Complete financial reporting and analysis for government funding by aligning program funding to program expenditures.
  • Assist with the preparation of quarterly financial results to senior management, the Board of Directors, and Audit Committees for Foundation and LaunchPad.
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual financial statements including supporting information for notes.
  • Provide support to the year-end audit process and work on external auditor requests.
  • Assist with the preparation and submission of the annual charity information returns for Foundation and LaunchPad.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline financial processes and enhance controls for Foundation and LaunchPad.
  • Implement best practices and automation solutions to improve efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting and analysis.
  • Lead special projects and perform analysis on an ad-hoc basis.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Working towards completion of CPA designation preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Knowledge of Not-for-profit accounting standards and Canada Revenue Agency’s Receipting and Books and Records rules considered an asset.
  • You are highly analytical and detail-oriented, with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • You have strong interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills.
  • You possess a keen ability to build and lead effective working relationships with other departments and external partners.
  • You demonstrate initiative and can work independently and as part of a team.
  • You possess outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to independently lead and prioritize work activities and inputs.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with experience with accounting and operating systems, such as Oracle Cloud Fusion ERP.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
