Job DescriptionFugro are recruiting for a senior hydrographic data processor to join our world-leading hydrographic survey team based at our waterfront office in Portchester on the UK’s south coast. As a senior hydrographic processor, you will be responsible for processing hydrographic data on a wide variety of projects. You will be working with teams in the field and project surveyors in the office to deliver industry-leading data to our clients.This is an excellent opportunity for you to work on a variety of projects and in a range of markets (including renewables and unexploded ordnance). The role will combine time based at our Portchester office, at site offices such as our remote operations centre in Aberdeen, and offshore on Fugro vessels. Therefore, you will get the opportunity to experience both the onshore and offshore environment, working at the forefront of marine geophysical science.The successful candidate will be working closely with the technical hydrographic team. This includes the project manager, vessel team, other processors and our clients. You will report to a project surveyor.The ideal candidate will:

You will play a key role in:

  • Processing, interpreting and reporting of hydrographic data, including multibeam bathymetry echosounder, GNSS tides, SVPs, USBL and backscatter;
  • Delivering high quality data at all phases of the project, including acquisition, processing, interpretation, reporting and deliverables;
  • Assisting with vessel mobilisations and demobilisations where required;
  • Undertaking offshore survey operations, including offshore processing, assisting with back-deck operations, undertaking data coverage checks and creating infill lineplans;
  • Coaching, mentoring and motivating other processors and surveyors to work efficiently, safely and to high standards;
  • Undertaking research and development work, including improvements to workflows, testing new software/hardware, remote working, training and team building.

Who we’re looking for:Essential

  • A qualification in hydrography, ocean science, earth mapping or closely related subject;
  • A minimum of 2 years industry-experience as a hydrographic data processor, or a minimum of 3 years industry-experience as a hydrographic surveyor;
  • An analytical mindset, shown by experience in GIS, data management, data processing and/or programming/coding;
  • Good verbal and written English language skills;
  • An ability to communicate clearly with colleagues and clients;
  • Confidence working under pressure to tight deadlines;
  • A high attention to detail, quality and safety;
  • We require applicants to live within (or relocate to) a commutable distance from our Portchester office.

Desirable

  • Experience of industry-standard hydrographic processing software, such as Teledyne CARIS, Fugro Starfix, QPS Qimera, QPS FMGT, HYPACK, VBA Proc or Applanix POSPac;
  • Offshore/practical experience in ocean science, renewables and/or survey industries;
  • Able to work offshore for periods of up to 4 weeks.
