As a progressive and vibrant healthcare organization, we are committed to being an innovative center of excellence in community hospital care.Job DescriptionAs part of Halton Healthcare Services Communications and Public Affairs team, the Senior Communications Consultant is responsible for developing, coordinating and executing internal and external strategic communications plans in support of Halton Healthcare’s strategic plan, master plan and core pillars of care, people and places. This position is responsible for contributing to and enhancing the organization’s brand, reputation and strategic goals through various platforms and tactics in alignment and partnership with our programs, people and partners. program and supporting the implementation of the organization’s strategic plan.The Senior Communications Consultant is an energetic, creative and highly-skilled strategic thinker who thrives in collaborative, fast-paced environments, while enthusiastically supporting organizational change.Responsibilities:
- Develop, execute and measure strategic communications plans for a large, diverse portfolio of clients.
- Work closely with the executive lead and department/program leaders and staff to support priority initiatives and proactively identify communications opportunities.
- Build relationships with key internal and external stakeholders and lead all elements of a successful communications plan including all communications products, such as tactics, messaging, budget management, creative assets, approvals and more.
- Provide strategic counsel and advice on various issues to executives and senior department/program leaders.
- Contribute to the development of the corporate communications strategy, including immediate and long-term goals and priorities.
- Proactively identify issues, potentially negative and/or positive, that may have an impact on the organization’s reputation or relationships and develop strategies manage the impact including preparation of messaging/ positioning statements.
- Identify emerging trends and their impact or opportunity for the organization.
- Provide support to corporate initiatives, events and campaigns as assigned.
- Write key messages, stories, speeches, presentation materials, opinion pieces, briefing notes, advertising copy, social media, media releases and other communications materials for client portfolio.
- Work closely with Creative Services and Content Manager and team to execute on various aspects of the communications plans.
- Ensure all communications products and materials are on brand and explore opportunities to strengthen brand awareness internally and externally through templates, videos, events, and more.
- Ensure all materials are viewed with a lens of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) and support EDI initiatives as required
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree program in a related field (Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Public Affairs) or recognized equivalent, e.g. public relations/communications diploma from a recognized community college.
- Minimum of seven 5 years of work experience as a communications strategist and generalist in a public affairs and communications environment. A minimum of 2 years working experience in a healthcare setting preferred, but not required.
- Solid knowledge of marketing and public relations principles and practices. Strong media relations skills and working knowledge of print, broadcast, online and social media.
- Superior writing and editing skills with the ability to take complex and clinical information and quickly translate it into compelling messages to reach a variety of audiences. Demonstrated experience in writing strategic communications plans, speeches, content for publications and promotional materials, etc.
- Highly developed project management skills.
- Highly articulate with strong verbal communications and presentation skills.
- Excellent critical thinking and judgement skills.
- Ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization in a fast-paced, high profile, deadline-oriented environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish effective working relationships with a broad range of internal and external partners.
- Proven ability to mentor and coach junior staff to grow into emerging leaders.
- Experience working with a variety of technologies and platforms including social media, website and intranet content development and management.
- Demonstrated experience championing best practices in communications.
