The Opportunity:Company, Department: Emera Newfoundland, FinanceLocation: Halifax, NS or St. Johns NewfoundlandClosing Date: October 3, 2024We are looking for a Senior Corporate Accountant to join our Emera Newfoundland team. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Finance you will lead professionals at our Newfoundland or Halifax Office location where we offer you a hybrid work option. Key elements of this role include::

  • Accounting and financial reporting, which includes, but is not limited to:
  • Oversee the month end close process; review and approve journal entries, prepare monthly results package for management.
  • Maintain general ledger, including organized working papers and detailed account reconciliations and analysis;
  • Preparing financial statements and analyzing the financial results;
  • Determining appropriate accounting treatments; and
  • Assisting internal and external auditors during quarterly reviews and annual audits;
  • Preparation of semi-annual forecasts, annual budget and annual long-term forecast;
  • Support in the preparation of regulatory reports and tax filings as needed;
  • Collaborating with other Emera departments to provide financial information;
  • Preparing other ad hoc analysis and reports as required.
  • Oversee a small accounting team (1-2 employees).

  • A bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Commerce with significant related work experience and have completed an accounting designation (CPA, or its predecessor CA, CMA or CGA);
  • Experience with financial reporting systems and Excel;
  • Knowledge of Regulatory Accounting would be considered an asset but is not required;
  • Detail oriented and possesses strong quantitative, analytical, and organizational skills;
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline driven, team-focused environment, with the ability to handle multiple deliverables and work independently under tight deadlines;
  • Have a solid business acumen, customer focused and is innovative, with the ability to identify and implement improved processes.
