This role is hiring only in Eastern North America, South America, Europe and Africa regions to match our teams’ time zones.

THE KEY BITS

• Whereabouts: We are a fully remote company with globally distributed team members. For this role, we are prioritizing candidates who are based in EST (UTC-5) to UTC+2 time zones.
• Visas: We do not sponsor work visas or relocation expenses
• Salary: We have budgeted a range of $75,000 – $100,000 USD but it will depend on level of experience. We are flexible to speak with candidates who feel excited about the role and qualify.
• Candidates selected for an interview will be required to do a 30-minute technical test before an initial chat
• Any final candidates will also have the opportunity to meet more Engineering or Product team members
• Ideal Start Date: As soon as we find you!

In this rapidly evolving world, Slate is always looking for new ways to disrupt the status quo, go to market faster, and optimize customer experiences.

We are looking to add a Senior iOS Engineer to our growing team responsible for implementing the iOS application functionalities and core components to bring new features to life.

Our current Engineering team includes our Co-Founder/CEO/Head of Product Michael, a Head of Engineering, 4 Frontend Engineers, 2 Backend Engineers, 2 iOS Engineers, an Android Engineer, and 3 QA Engineers. The ideal candidate will have big ideas and strategies that foster an environment of collaboration and creativity. Therefore, this role is ideal for someone who enjoys discovering, evaluating, and implementing new technologies to maximize development efficiency. You likely enjoy challenges that keep you on your toes and embrace continuous learning to expand your abilities and grow.

You will:

As a startup, we are flexible and are open to shaping the scope of your responsibilities based on your interests. That said, we’re looking for someone who is open to assisting the engineering team in the development of new mobile app functionality. This may include all or some of the following tasks:

1. Help in the development of our customer-facing mobile product with the development of new features
2. Actively contribute to a small team of distributed engineers and designers working autonomously and developing features rapidly
3. Write sustainable, testable, high-quality, high-performance code.
4. Adapt to fast-moving business requirements & changes
5. Follow designs with great detail to attention to a create beautiful and usable mobile product
6. Ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs
7. Work with the product and management team to understand customer needs, use-cases, and feature roadmaps
8. Optimize application for maximum speed and scalability
9. Open to share knowledge with teammates and to help/assist other teammates as needed

Requirements

WE’D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU IF YOU MEET THESE QUALIFICATIONS

Your core competencies:

• 5+ years of iOS development experience;
• Self-starter, proactive, and driven to achieve goals, regardless of obstacles;
• Willing to roll up your sleeves and do whatever it takes to help the team;
• Passion for entrepreneurship and relentless problem solver;
• Team player who enjoys collaborating with others to make things happen;
• A people person with strong written and verbal communication skills;
• At least an upper-intermediate level of English.

Your technical skills that set you apart:

Strong knowledge of:

• Swift programming language
• UIKit framework
• Xcode instruments for debugging and optimization

Hands-on experience with:

• iOS memory management, profiling and optimization
• Core Data for local persistence, FileManager for local file handling
• AVFoundation for audio/video handling
• Creation of custom complex user interfaces
• Familiarity with networking libraries like URLSession, Alamofire for networking.
• Concurrency management using GCD and NSOperation
• Modern concurrency techniques (e.g., async/await)
• Combine framework for reactive programming
• Dependency management using Cocoapods, SPM
• Basic understanding of SwiftUI for UI development
• Understanding of architecture patterns (MVVM, MVC, etc.)
• Understanding of modular architecture

Major Bonus Points:

• Practical experience creating a custom text editor using Core Text or TextKit
• Hands-on experience in video rendering using AVFoundation
• Experience in media processing using Metal/MetalKit
