DESCRIPTIONAmazon Lab126 is looking for a Senior Manager Design Tech (DT) to join our Hardware Design organization to create a new Experience Prototype Lab in our South Lake Union headquarters. This role will be hands on building experience prototypes and at the same time will build a team of model maker/prototyper technologists to support the development of functional and wizard-of-oz prototypes to demonstrate future design concepts for existing and new product lines.The role and team will act as an intermediary between Design, Research and Engineering to create rapid prototype, high-fidelity assets to be used in user studies, as part of the design process, and in communicating forward ideas to leadership.Key job responsibilities
-Design, build and operate a small model making shop.
-Hire and build a small team of model makers.
-Deliver quality semi-functional models and experience prototypes.A day in the life
- Operate and maintain 3D printers and other lab equipment such as Laser, Mill etc.
- Build semi-functional experience prototypes and models including typical off the shelf electronics
- Carry out post-processing of the 3D printed parts including sanding and painting
- Assemble and/or modify parts using variety of lab tools and techniques
- Maintain clean, organized and safe working environment in the lab
- Keep track of inventories and re-order or acquire materials as necessary
- Ship and receive packages related to daily lab operations
- Assist with relocation of lab equipment
- Make extra effort to get projects done right and on time
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS-BS/MS/PhD in Engineering or Product Design and/or equivalent industry experience
-5+ years experience as a key member and manager of a design team participating in the complete product development lifecycle
-3+ years experience using Arduino, Raspberry PI or related
-Experience developing visually polished and engaging prototypes involving both hardware, electronics and softwarePREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS-Demonstrable ability to create highly engaging prototypes in the electronics, software and hardware domains
-Proven ability to innovate within and extend current technology through prototypes
-Willingness to work with and advance internal tools
-Strong conceptual and problem solving skills
-Good oral and written communication skills
-Good understanding of interaction design and design process skills
-Good development and design sensibilities

The base pay for this position ranges from $165,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $285,500/year in our highest geographic market.
