Working as an integral part of the senior team this role will focus on the technical integration, component and system delivery for all JLR internal combustion engine projects designed in the UK for UK and global manufacture. This role is also responsible for DVP&R formulation, execution and Quality – having full product cycle responsibility.The role demands strong technical leadership combined with a versatile, agile approach to the changing circumstances within programmes and an ability to be able to manage conflicting priorities between programmes in a positive and proactive manner.Governing control, evolving departmental skills and processes to improve delivery precision, control and engineering integrity are fundamental requirements of the role. In addition, managing resources, budgets and balancing attributes to deliver world class quality across concurrent programmes are key requirements of the role.THE ROLEKey Responsibilities

  • Champion a quality focus for current engineering and future model activities
  • Lead the development and maintenance of all appropriate JLR standards – to provide world class engine design capability, specifications & targets
  • Deliver robust design solutions that comply with programme attributes within an agreed manufacturing bill of process to PSW timing
  • Lead the team to deliver a set of global targets & strategies that demonstrate world class engineering quality
  • Lead the forecasting and budgeting to support individual programme needs
  • Set the pace & standards of operation to match JLR operational ambitions
  • Be the Primary lead for technical issue resolution and escalation within programmes for core engineering design issues
  • Responsible for engineering sign off at FEC at component/system & whole engine level
  • Ensure that commodity system strategies are followed by the core team and that they are compatible with should design, Bill of Process, cost and service targets and that the system strategy papers comply with Commodity Business Plan timing
  • Lead cross functional initiatives to improve engineering best practice to facilitate design for manufacture, design for service and design for assembly

  • Quality control – ASPIRE project throughput, R’s & A’s/1000, CPU and customer surveys

WHAT YOU’LL NEEDEssential Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Strong technical background with proven knowledge of Internal Combustion Engine engineering
  • A deep understanding of design principles and the robust application of quality tools within an engineering environment
  • Strong leadership skills to direct a large team of engineering specialists
  • A passion for continuous improvement and a drive and energy to constantly improve the deployment and use of improved engineering standards and processes throughout the department
  • Ability to demonstrate strong technical leadership in problem resolution
  • An ability to communicate a technical vision and to develop a comprehensive business case to support delivery
  • Strong commercial and business acumen to be able to forecast accurate budgets for a large department
  • Degree in mechanical, electro-mechanical or automotive engineering

  • Ability to communicate overall engine technical strategy at all levels within JLR and to drive technical excellence and strategic direction in all engine systems
  • Ability to act in an entrepreneurial environment and be resourceful and resilient to the changing demands of the business
  • Proven knowledge and skills in evaluating new technologies in determining strategic direction for the implementation into mainstream programmes
