Job Description:Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. PRESTO serves more than 5 million customers across 11 transit agencies and processes over $2.5 billion in fares through 67 million boardings per month (pre-pandemic). Today, PRESTO offers one of the most globally advanced fare payment systems in the world having delivered new ways to pay for customers, including real time PRESTO Contactless with credit and Interac debit and PRESTO in Mobile Wallet across its transit agency clients, including the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC). Enhancing the customer experience through continuous improvement while working with our transit agency clients to support their needs, and maintaining a system that performs exceptionally, continue to drive PRESTO toward making transit better for all.Our Payments office is seeking 1 Senior Release Engineer to play a key lead role in the defining and delivery of Strategic and Tactical activity for the Release Management practice to support the various programs of work across our portfolio, and ensure effective delivery of PRESTO products and the technology roadmap.What will I be doing?

  • Integrated Planning and Cross-Program Support: Oversee integrated planning, master release scheduling, and status reporting; collaborate with portfolio planning leads and vendors to ensure alignment across programs.
  • Coordination and Communication: Facilitate cross-program communication to ensure cohesive delivery and effective risk management. Ensure all stakeholders understand the scoping and delivery processes, the overall plans, and their specific contributions.
  • Support Program Alignment: Assist program managers, product owners, solutions teams, and operational teams in aligning on standardized processes, tools, templates, and best practices, while working closely with PMO and Vendor Management.
  • Release Management: Oversee daily release activities, collaborating with internal teams and vendors to meet release deliverables on time and within quality standards. Hold stakeholders accountable for commitments and ensure vendor delivery based on outcome-focused metrics.
  • Collaboration with Technical Teams: Work with product, platform, and technical solution SMEs to define the technical scope, release themes, and component lists in line with business and technology delivery requirements and roadmaps.
  • Release Calendar and Schedule Management: Define and manage the release calendar, aligning schedules with stakeholders, vendors, and technical teams to meet key release milestones. Collaborate with QA and environment leads to allocate resources and escalate any environment-related issues or conflicts.
  • Enhance Release Management Processes: Improve release management processes, tools, and templates in collaboration with internal teams and vendors, ensuring alignment with product, project, and program delivery methodologies.
  • Agile and Waterfall Integration: Implement an approach that balances agile and waterfall methodologies, coordinating across program, project, product, and operations teams to ensure timely and high-quality delivery.
  • Change and Release Dependency Management: Collaborate with technical leads and the Change Advisory Board to identify and address dependencies in change and release processes. Work with technical and QA leads to track and mitigate technical risks and resource conflicts.
  • Release Controls and Reporting: Manage release baselines, scope, and schedule changes. Set agendas, establish cadence, and track overall release health through regular Release forums with program and project managers. Follow the Release Change Management process to coordinate reviews, decisions, and adjustments for any releases.

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?

  • Education/Background: A degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Experience: Proven senior-level experience in release strategies and delivery, with a strong blend of technology and business expertise. Experience in enterprise release planning and overall release management using both Agile and Waterfall methodologies. Knowledge of controls and maturity assessments (CMMI, ISO).
  • Product Management Lifecycle: In-depth knowledge of the Product Management Lifecycle, with a demonstrated ability to translate product roadmaps into actionable release plans.
  • Collaboration and Planning: Strong ability to collaborate and plan at both strategic and detailed levels, focusing on interdependencies. Experience working with diverse teams, including internal staff and external vendors or consultants. A customer-centric mindset with an emphasis on customer-first, customer-now principles.
  • Project Leadership and Strategy: Experience leading projects, developing IT and business strategies, and managing service provider relationships for product and service delivery. A proven track record of delivering initiatives on time and within budget, across various methodologies.
  • Decision-Making and Process Improvement: Skilled in facilitating options analysis, resolving issues, and driving decision-making. Familiar with introducing innovative approaches (e.g., DevOps, Lean, Agile) and understanding their data implications and integration across internal, vendor, and client teams.
  • Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, with a talent for creating clear, impactful visuals and narratives through dashboards and presentations.
  • Training & Certification: ITIL Foundations Certification (required), ITSM tool experience (e.g., SNOW), and Jira experience (considered an asset). Additional assets include Portfolio Management expertise, Agile certifications, and knowledge of Agile Lifecycle Management tools, Certified Scrum Product Owner, Certified in Software Development Methodologies, and Project Management Professional (PMP) or PRINCE2.
  • Financial and Value-Add Acumen: Demonstrable expertise in financial management, budgeting, and applying Lean methods to minimize costs and improve service delivery effectiveness.
