Our closely-knit team works collaboratively with product, design, marketing and operations teams on deeply technical problems across our full stack (lots of front and backend problems to solve!). There’s so much opportunity to dive deep into our domain – we’re looking for someone passionate about learning new, complex systems, an owner that will improve those systems and communicate strongly with stakeholders along the way. Some tech we use daily: React (TypeScript), Ruby on Rails, GraphQL, Temporal.Managed Invest: This team is leading the charge in our mission to democratize wealth management. By merging cutting-edge technology with sophisticated investment strategies, we provide personalized wealth management solutions tailored to our clients’ needs. We are driven by ambitious goals to enhance the client experience, making it both seamless and enjoyable. We’re also developing a new suite of products to offer clients greater choice and control over their investment journeys. Our team is growing rapidly: we’re building out specialized areas within our domain. We use a range of advanced technologies daily, including Ruby, React/React Native, GraphQL, Temporal, and Kafka. Collaboration is key, as we engage with various stakeholders-such as advisors, legal experts, compliance officers, investment researchers, product designers, and clients-to refine and perfect our solutions.Payment Cards: This team is responsible for payment card products, from physical and virtual cards, to in-app experiences to digital wallets to reward systems. We work with leading payment networks, processors, manufacturers, and digital wallets to craft simple, intelligent and rewarding spending experiences for Canadians. We use a range of technologies like Ruby and React native.App Experience: App Experience is a front-end oriented team focused on delivering a performant and reliable mobile application. The team collaborates closely with other product engineering teams and our front-end platform team, establishing best practices and implementing core app experiences where these are put in to action. When it comes to product development, app experience works on high impact surfaces across the mobile application, think the Home tab. Partnering closely with design, they take an iterative approach to product development, favouring proof of concept and experimental work in code to validate UX and development patterns. The team is predominantly mobile focused, working in react-native, though will operate across the stack to enable high quality application delivery so some Full Stack experience is a bonus.In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

• Join a team that has experience growing Wealthsimple into one of the largest FinTech players in Canada, and aims to make Wealthsimple the primary financial institution for Canadians
• Collaborate with our cross-functional teams of talented software developers, data scientists, product managers, and designers to give Wealthsimple clients delightful web and mobile experiences
• Work across the entire techstack to iteratively build, test, deploy and monitor high quality software
• Ship impactful projects and solve interesting problems on a regular basis leveraging cutting edge technology

About our tech stack and tools:

• Service oriented architecture with over 100+ services
• Roughly half of these services are Ruby on Rails, with the other half being Java/Kotlin. The teams we are hiring for here are mostly using Ruby on Rails.
• Our front-end application is a mix of React/Angular
• We host our services on Amazon Web Services and use things like RDS, Aurora, SQS, SNS, S3, Kafka, etc
• We have amazing infrastructure & security teams
• We follow best practices and have great tools for profiling, logging, tracing, tracking and experimenting

Skills You Bring:

• Proven track record of scoping and building medium to large features for distributed systems In production
• Proficiency in code reviews and troubleshooting design or performance issues.
• Solid understanding of common design patterns, relational databases (SQL), and experience working with backend and frontend development frameworks
• Comfortable with on-call duties and system maintenance.
• Effective at communicating with technical and non-technical stakeholders
• The drive to help improve team documentation, champion operational excellence, and make meaningful improvements to the codebase

Nice to Have:

• Experience working with React or React Native, Ruby on Rails, Java or Kotlin
• Working knowledge of GraphQL and Kafka
• Familiarity with frameworks such as Kubernetes and tools such as Temporal and DataDog
• Experience working on mobile development
• Experience working with banking or financial technology companies
• Background in financial technology or B2C applications
• Experience with interviewing, onboarding, and mentoring junior team members
