As a Senior System Engineer, you’ll be at the forefront of innovation, collaborating on cutting-edge software components for Platform.sh, Blackfire.io, and Upsun. Reporting directly to the Director of Engineering, you’ll have the opportunity to shape the future of our Observability solutions and make a significant impact in a fast-paced environment.What to expect:

• Spearhead the development and enhancement of Observability features for leading products such as Platform.sh, Blackfire.io, and Upsun.
• Contribute to the design and implementation of software components, including those used to collect and process telemetry data, spanning various languages such as PHP, Golang, Python, Ruby, Node.JS, and more.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to integrate system and language extensions for real-time data collection, ensuring seamless operation and compatibility across diverse environments.
• Drive innovation through collaboration with domain experts to provide unique features and unprecedented experiences for our users.
• Contribute to the architecture and scalability of observability solutions, ensuring seamless integration with existing systems and future advancements.
• Lead troubleshooting efforts and provide technical expertise to resolve complex system issues, ensuring high availability and reliability of observability features.
• Mentor junior team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth within the Observability Team.
• Stay ahead of industry trends and best practices in observability, continuously refining and evolving our systems to meet evolving needs and challenges.

What you bring:

• Understanding of PHP extensions and internals with proven experience in developing, maintaining, and optimizing PHP extensions. Expertise extends to debugging and analyzing issues within PHP extensions.
• Knowledge of Operating System Engineering and thorough understanding of software system performance, including familiarity with different processor architectures such as AMD and ARM.
• Experience in crossOS programming proficiency across Linux, FreeBSD, OSX, and Windows platforms.
• Pragmatic problem-solving, employing effective solutions to overcome complex problems efficiently.
• Innovative mindset, driving you to propose creative and forward-thinking solutions and designs, contributing to continuous improvement efforts.
• Excellence in communication, engaging in discussions, accepting feedback, and sharing knowledge with diverse audiences.
• Collaboration as second nature; actively sharing work and collaborating with team members to achieve collective goals.
• Prioritization of understanding and meeting the needs and expectations of our clients, enhancing their satisfaction and overall experience.

Bonus points for:

• Familiarity with Observability Engineering. While not required, familiarity with industry standard Observability tools is a bonus. You demonstrate the ability to leverage existing solutions to enhance product features effectively.
