This includes all aspects from physical hardware, Windows and UNIX operating systems, Storage Area Networking.Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead in the management and problem-solving of storage systems and servers running on various Unix/Linux distributions, focusing on performance optimization and security enhancements.
  • Oversee the implementation, management, and optimization of virtualization technologies and cloud computing platforms to facilitate efficient application deployment and improve system performance.
  • Employ scripting and automation tools to streamline routine operations, manage configurations, and deploy applications, aiming for scalable and easily maintainable infrastructure.
  • Apply a creative and analytical approach to solving complex issues, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the IT infrastructure.
  • Manage the selection and administration of server hardware, including disk partitioning and RAID setups, to maximize data integrity and system availability.
  • Researches and evaluates technical solutions for projects that require data centre resident servers and storage.
  • Defines and develops alternative technical solutions to meet client’s requirements or to improve the operation of the data centre.
  • Validates the alternatives against the client’s or the centre’s requirements.
  • Evaluates the impact of each alternative on the existing environment.
  • Ensures alternative technical solutions are compliant with departmental standards, overarching legal and/or other sensitive agreements, and technically feasible.
  • Resolves areas of non-compliance including identification of dependencies.
  • Defines, documents, and presents the preferred solution to the client and ITS Management.
  • Plans the implementation project by developing the technical requirements and budgets for solution delivery.
  • Develops implementation plan and schedule being conscious of dependencies within the project activities, inter-relationships between activities and other departmental projects, supplier, and external dependencies and or time/latency factors, and the college’s business cycles, business continuity, disaster recovery and ongoing administration.
  • Performs initial solution implementation and tests against client’s functional requirements, modifying and adjusting as needed as per client’s requirements.
  • Provides reactive support and on-going maintenance by responding to and resolving problems reported by the helpdesk.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Educational and Experience Requirements:

  • Three-year diploma or degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Information Technology, Computer Sciences and/or Business Administration and/or Commerce or equivalent.
  • Redhat and/or Microsoft certification are required.
  • Minimum eight (8) years of experience in understanding of the overall business and technical operations of an IT department including voice, video and data networking, application development and client support with specific expertise and experience in PC Networking, Storage Area Networking, Local Area Networking, File, Print and e-Mail Services in support thereof.

  • Ability to lift between 20 kg or 44 lbs (i.e., mounting of computer equipment in racks).
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, teamwork, and interpersonal skills at a professional level.
