Course # and title: SOC317H5F: Shopping and SocietyCourse description: This course provides an overview of the Sociology of Consumption. The study of consumption provides an entry point for examining the intersection between culture, economics, and the environment. Potential topics include the following: the shopping experience, consumption as status, the environmental impact of consumerism, fashion cycles, and identity construction through consumption.Estimated course enrolment: 150Estimated TA support: 160 hours (subject to enrolment)Class schedule (Lectures): Mondays & Wednesdays 1 β 3pmSessional dates of appointment: May 1 β June 30, 2025Salary: Minimum stipend $9,457.89 for a Half course (inclusive of vacation pay)Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.Minimum qualification:Candidates must have at least an M.A. or equivalent in Sociology or related discipline. Previous experience teaching a similar course, and evidence of teaching excellence in the subject covered in the course are preferred.Preferred qualification: N/ADescription of duties: All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams; calculation and submission of grades; holding regular office hours; supervising TAβs assigned to course; order all necessary readings.Application instructions:Application which includes a cover letter, CV and any relevant information must be submitted to the Chair c/o .
