Practical issues around lesson planning, unit planning, classroom management, and the class as a community are addressed. This course provides a practical and conceptual introduction to the teaching of students and will introduce student teachers to many of the philosophies, methods, and materials relevant to teaching. It provides opportunities to develop an understanding of the process of becoming a teacher, insight into the role of ethics in research, and to acquire the skills and attitudes to be a thoughtful and reflective practitioner. In these respects, this course enables the student teacher to build a foundation for continuing professional growth as an individual and as a member of the teaching community. This course is normally open only to students in the Teaching program.Estimated course enrolment: 35Estimated TA support: NoneClass schedule: See class schedule on the job application siteSessional dates of appointment: Sep. 2024 to Apr. 2025Salary: As of May 01, 2024, the minimum stipend is $9,457.90 (inclusive of vacation pay) for a half credit course. – Must possess a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline and/or equivalent professional experience
– Must demonstrate currency and mastery in the course subject matter
– Must demonstrate deep knowledge and experience in contexts, policies and practices of the division (Primary/Junior K-Gr. 6, Junior/Intermediate Gr. 4-10, Intermediate/Senior Gr. 7-12)
– Must demonstrate excellence in teaching, including online teaching as relevant
– Must demonstrate evidence of knowledge and practice of principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion
– Must demonstrate excellence in teaching and leading teachers/teacher-candidates’ professional learning
