Practical issues around lesson planning, unit planning, classroom management, and the class as a community are addressed. This course provides a practical and conceptual introduction to the teaching of students and will introduce student teachers to many of the philosophies, methods, and materials relevant to teaching. It provides opportunities to develop an understanding of the process of becoming a teacher, insight into the role of ethics in research, and to acquire the skills and attitudes to be a thoughtful and reflective practitioner. In these respects, this course enables the student teacher to build a foundation for continuing professional growth as an individual and as a member of the teaching community. This course is normally open only to students in the Teaching program.Estimated course enrolment: 35Estimated TA support: NoneClass schedule: See class schedule on the job application siteSessional dates of appointment: Sep. 2024 to Apr. 2025Salary: As of May 01, 2024, the minimum stipend is $9,457.90 (inclusive of vacation pay) for a half credit course. Salary may be prorated based on the appointment percentage. Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.Minimum qualifications:Candidates:
– Must possess a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline and/or equivalent professional experience
– Must demonstrate currency and mastery in the course subject matter
– Must demonstrate deep knowledge and experience in contexts, policies and practices of the division (Primary/Junior K-Gr. 6, Junior/Intermediate Gr. 4-10, Intermediate/Senior Gr. 7-12)
– Must demonstrate excellence in teaching, including online teaching as relevant
– Must demonstrate evidence of knowledge and practice of principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion
– Must demonstrate excellence in teaching and leading teachers/teacher-candidates’ professional learning
– Must possess an Ontario Teaching certificate with OCT qualifications in the relevant divisionPreferred qualifications: NADescription of duties: Prepare, organize, and teach this half-course graduate seminar; be available to students seeking assistance between classes; evaluate and provide students with feedback on their work.Additional Notes: N/AApplication instructions: Please indicate in a letter of application why you believe your experience qualifies you to teach this particular course.
