Faculty of InformationSessional LecturerWinter Term 2025 (January – April)INF481H1 – Special Topics in Information Studies I: UXCourse Description: This advanced course allows students to investigate emerging issues, practices, theories, and innovations of user experience design. Held primarily in seminar format, students will lead and participate in discussions, activities, and workshops on a variety of topics relevant to the user experience field and the broader context of digital design and innovation. Students will be encouraged to think both creatively and critically about the social, political, and environmental factors impacting UX design theory and practice. Topics for the course include: understanding how to design for emerging technologies such as recommend or systems/strategies, augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), voice and gesture interfaces, UX issues with integrating AI, accessibility UX design, Cross-Platform and Multi-Device UX, UX for video games and influence and leadership in UX design. Students will research the current and future state of UX practice following emerging research and industry trends.Estimate of the course enrolment: 35Estimate of TA Support: None anticipated. Estimate of 75 hours with enrollment of 36 or greater. Allocation of TA hours, if any, will be based on enrolment numbers.Class Schedule: Fridays 2:00pm-4:00pm. You are required to be located in geographical proximity to the applicable University premises in order to attend and perform your duties on University premises as of the Starting Date.Sessional dates of appointment: January 1, 2025 – April 30, 2025Salary:

Sessional Lecturer I Long Term: $10,764
Sessional Lecturer II $11,021
Sessional Lecturer II Long Term: $11,227
Sessional Lecturer III: $11,279
Sessional Lecturer III Long Term: $11,485Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.Qualifications: Preferably candidates will have a completed, or nearly completed, PhD degree in an area related to the course or a Master’s degree plus extensive professional experience in an area related to the course.
