High-fidelity simulation provides an experiential learning environment for nursing students to plan, organize, and implement complex care, develop critical thinking skills, learn to work as a team and apply theory and skills to clinical practice.The Simulationist prepares the high-fidelity simulator and patient room for scenarios, uses a software program to advance the scenario stages in response to the patient care being provided by the students, and enhances the learning situation by giving appropriate verbal patient responses and health care team voices during the simulation experience.The Simulationist fulfills teaching responsibilities, as annually assigned.DutiesTeaching and/or Teaching-related Responsibilities: Actively participates in the planning, delivery and evaluation of courses specified in a manner consistent with the curriculum and operational guidelines established by the Faculty of NursingSimulationist Responsibilities: use various types of fidelity to create the required perception of realism in the patient care environment to enhance student learning, including: facilitating student learning by coaching or prompting when necessary and communicating in the role of other healthcare team members (as required by the scenario); familiarizing students with simulation rooms, encourages students to apply skills and knowledge to the simulation scenario; and contributes to developing advanced simulation modalitiesPerforms essential support functions, such as: tracking and ordering supplies as well as preparing, setting up, and taking down supplies and equipmentQualifications
- Current registration and in good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) is required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing is required. A Master’s Degree in Nursing is preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of medical/surgical nursing experience; familiarity with diverse patient acuity levels.
- Demonstrates teaching/instructional excellence at the post-secondary level or in clinical settings.
- Experience in facilitating high-fidelity patient simulation is preferred.
- Facilitation, negotiation and problem-solving skills, and an ability to handle challenging student situations.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills (e.g. team building, conflict resolution, advocacy, emotional intelligence, and self-awareness).
- Knowledge of the Faculty of Nursing Equity, Diversity, Inclusivity and Indigeneity (EDI-I) initiatives.
