DESCRIPTIONAs an SDM in GTMC SIERRA (Science, Insights, Experience, Research, Reporting & Analytics), you’ll lead a team of software engineers requiring partnership across frontend, backend, applied science, UX, and data engineering functions to integrate insights into Global Talent Management and Compentsation (GTMC) products and processes.You will define a roadmap that works backwards from our three year and operational plans, and as the leader of your team, you are responsible for establishing mechanisms to manage delivery and ensure quality of the software delivered by your team. You will hire, develop, and structure your team for harmony and efficiency, and you will support your team by establishing vision, managing tradeoffs, and setting expectations with stakeholders.A day in the life
- Interview a candidate for a new role on the team
- Present a strategy document to your stakeholders to drive alignment on team roadmap
- Attend a team-level operations review meeting to understand system health
- Review a design document produced by engineers on the team and provide feedback to ensure alignment with overall product strategy and stakeholder needs
- Hold 1:1s with members of the team to provide them with feedback, support, and context
- Meet with a customer to understand a problem they need your team to solve
- Escalate an issue to remove a blocker for the team

Global Talent Management & Compensation (GTMC) SIERRA (Science, Insights, Experience, Research, Reporting & Analytics) is a horizontal, multi-disciplinary organization whose mission is to be a force multiplier for the broader GTMC organization and our key customer cohorts. We accomplish this by using our expertise in data analytics and science, economics, machine learning (ML), UX, I/O psychology, and engineering to build insights and experiences that raise the bar in understanding and shaping decision making at scale by integrating within and across talent journeys as well as through self-service tools and closed loop mechanisms outside of those journeys. Our portfolio of products spans foundational data sources, metrics, and research through to finished features and products that our end-customers interact with on a daily basis.BASIC QUALIFICATIONS– 3+ years of engineering team management experience
– 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
– 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
– 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
– Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
– Experience partnering with product or program management teamsPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS– Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
