By providing cutting-edge digital tools, we ensure that healthcare professionals can focus on what truly matters—improving patient outcomes and experiences.Who we needReporting to the Director of Engineering, we are hiring a Software Engineering Manager who will serve as both a people manager and an individual contributor. In this role, you will lead a team of 8-10 software engineers on the OSCAR Pro and Juno platforms. You will oversee day-to-day operations, driving technical excellence, platform stability, and interoperability. Additionally, you will manage the full software development lifecycle—from design and estimation to planning, implementation, testing, documentation, release, and maintenance—to ensure the timely delivery of scalable, secure, and high-quality healthcare software.This is a remote-first opportunity that supports team members across Canada, with hybrid options available if desired.Who you areYou are a hands-on Software Engineering Manager with a proven track record of leading high-performing software development teams. You excel at balancing hands-on coding with team leadership and people management. Your deep expertise in cloud computing and full-stack development enables you to deliver high-level estimation, strategic planning, and precise execution. As a manager, you take pride in coaching and mentoring developers, empowering them to achieve success while driving overall business growth.What’s in it for youImpact. You will play a pivotal role in integrating the OSCAR Pro and Juno EMR systems into our new Polaris platform using FHIR. This high-visibility project will enhance interoperability and data exchange across healthcare systems, ultimately improving patient care and clinical efficiency.Autonomy and Influence. You will oversee the full software development lifecycle—from design and planning to implementation, testing, and release—while establishing best practices, improving team velocity, and driving innovation that directly enhances platform stability, performance, and deployment frequency.Purpose and Innovation.   • Lead and grow a high-performing Engineering team. You will provide technical leadership and mentorship to a team of senior and mid-level developers. You will foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement. You will align the team deliverables with the goals of the organization.
  • High-quality software delivery. You will coach your team to uphold high-quality standards by minimizing software defects and adopting the best software design, architecture, and development practices. You will drive enhancements in unit testing, automated QA coverage, and CI/CD pipelines while overseeing code reviews to ensure adherence to coding standards and security guidelines.
  • Implement strategies to optimize system performance, robustness, and maintainability. You will act as a technical advisor and provide architectural leadership. You will lead the design and evolution of OSCAR Pro and Juno EMRs. You will guide the team in developing FHIR-based healthcare data integrations. You will improve code quality and increase deployment and release rollout frequency.
  • Integration of OSCAR Pro and Juno into Polaris. You will provide technical direction and leadership to integrate the OSCAR Pro and Juno EMR systems into the new Polaris platform using FHIR. The integration will require building new reusable components and bidirectional synchronization between the new Polaris FHIR-based data repository system and the OSCAR Pro and Juno EMR systems.
  • Drive cross-team collaboration. You will work closely with product owners and stakeholders to align development efforts with business goals. You will effectively communicate technical decisions, trade-offs, and risks to technical and non-technical stakeholders. You will champion and implement modern software development methodologies (Agile, DevOps, CI/CD, and automation).
  • Optimize productivity. You will define key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive measurable improvements in OSCAR performance, team velocity, and development efficiency. You will continuously assess and optimize processes to eliminate waste and enhance workflow effectiveness.

  • The technical expertise. You have experience across the entire stack, using Angular, React, Java or Kotlin, JUnit, Spring, Hibernate, Node.js, Git, GitOps, and CI/CD pipelines. You have worked on data retrieval, storage, and performance optimization in SQL. You are a champion of automated testing to enhance QA quality and coverage. You have experience with Microsoft Azure or similar cloud technologies. You have proven experience designing scalable, modular architectures and API development. Familiarity with FHIR and healthcare data exchange standards preferred.
  • The AI experience. You have tried at least one AI-powered tool, such as Windsurf, Aider, Cursor, CodeRabbit, or other productivity-enhancing assistants to streamline development workflows, automate repetitive tasks, and improve code quality, code reviews and testing. You stay up to date with emerging AI technologies and have tried to integrate them into your daily work to enhance efficiency and collaboration.
