Hiring Incentive will be paid out in three equal installments.The Streets and Right of Way (SROW) classification is a two-part career progression model comprised of the following working titles: SROW Worker I and II.The Streets & Right-of-Way Worker performs a variety of manual or semi-skilled maintenance and repair tasks in City streets, right of way, or infrastructure maintenance.The SROW Worker II may oversee or lead the work of other workers depending on assignment with the guidance of a SROW Foreman and position requires a Commercial Driver’s License and falls under the Department of Transportation, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Rules and Regulations.This is a Safety Sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing.SROW Worker IEducation / higher education: High School Graduate or equivalentMinimum number of years of directly related experience: At least six months work experience and/or training in a similar job.Education and/or experience preferences: Prior experience in street maintenance.SROW Worker IIEducation / higher education: High School Graduate or equivalentMinimum number of years of directly related experience: At least six months work experience as a SROW Worker with the City of Rio Rancho.SROW Worker IDriver’s License requirement: Frequent Driver — Regular Driver’s License Required Endorsements: NoneNote — For any driver, driving record must always meet City driving and insurability standards.Required certifications, licenses or registrations: NonePreferred certifications, licenses or registrations: NoneSROW Worker IIDriver’s License requirement: Commercial Driver’s License Required Endorsements: CDL Class B with tanker endorsement Note — For any driver, driving record must always meet City driving and insurability standards.SROW Worker IKnowledge: Methods, materials, procedures, and standard practices of street and right-of-way maintenance, vegetation control and removal; methods, materials, procedures, and standard practices of street repair including concrete and asphalt repair, removal, and replacement; equipment and tool operation and maintenance practices; Federal (OSHA) and state regulations and City policies regarding safe work practices relating to use of power tools. Understanding how to work safely near and around traffic.Skills: Use of hand tools; safely operating a motor vehicle.Abilities: Perform heavy physical exertion under adverse weather conditions; follow written and oral instructions; operate power equipment, including but not limited to, grounds keeping equipment, mowers, tractors, weed cutters, blowers, dump trailers, skid steer loaders, and related equipment as assigned; operate hand tools; operate a motor vehicle; prepare basic written reports, including work orders and maintenance logs; establish and maintain effective, professional relations; communicate effectively with the public and other employees; operate, maintain and repair power tools and small equipment used in the work; comprehend and carry out simple verbal instructions and recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers; add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s; perform these operations using units of money, weight measurement, volume, and distance.Interaction with Groups/Agencies/Entities: Internal: Works with other sections within the Engineering Division and other Public Works Divisions as well as other City Departments to provide for the health, welfare and safety of the traveling public. External: Presents a friendly, courteous image for the City to the general public, customers, and public officials.SROW Worker IIKnowledge: NM DOT Guidelines and Procedures For Over the Road Transporting of materials and goods Weight Limits -Height Limits’ Traffic Control Devices etc.Skills: Operate heavy trucks, load and unload construction materials and equipment both manually and with mechanical equipment. The operation of heavy truck maneuvering such as but not limited to; backing, loading, unloading, dumping, spread dumping and towing etc.Abilities: Comprehend and carry out simple verbal instructions and recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s and perform these operations using units of money, weight measurement, volume, and distance.Interaction with Groups/Agencies/Entities: Internal: Works with laborers, maintenance technicians, heavy equipment operators, and department supervisors to construct and repair City buildings on time and within cost. External: Occasional interaction with the general public, customers, and public officials.The following functions are typical for this position. The omission of specific functions does not exclude them if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment for this position. Other duties may be required and assigned.SROW I
