Location: Vancouver, British ColumbiaJob Description:** This position pays $26.77-$29.27 hourly. **Essential Details and Responsibilities

  • Team development including hiring, training, supervision, coaching, performance management (up to and including termination) including writing and delivering performance appraisals and OFIs.
  • Drive sales, service, and customer experience initiatives in store to achieve Sales, KPIs and Store Performance goals.
  • Plan and execute community events and partnering with various rescue agencies.
  • Place orders, maintain appropriate inventory, floor moves, merchandising, display maintenance, housekeeping and miscellaneous paperwork.
  • Responsible for the store’s Health & Safety audits; protects employees and customers by maintaining a safe and clean store environment. May be required to maintain cleanliness and well-being of all livestock including animal care and feeding.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and positive attitude in the workplace, including conducting oneself in an appropriate manner when communicating verbally, in writing or by email.
  • Demonstrate a calm demeanor during periods of high volume, events and manage smooth transitions to keep store operating
  • Protect employees and customers by providing a safe and clean working environment
  • Accountable for financial reporting and operational metrics standards
  • Maintain the stability and reputation of the store by complying with legal requirements
  • Follow, enforce, and train all employees on all company policies and procedures
  • Implementing all operational and merchandising direction that is communicated from the Corporate Office
  • Fully accountable for execution of sales, service, and customer experience initiatives in store
  • Consistently demonstrate excellent leadership and coaching skills

Experience, Education, Certifications (List minimum required to enter the role.)

  • Management experience – at least 5+ years in a retail establishment
  • Working knowledge of POS system, preferred
  • College degree, an asset

  • Must handle routine and unusual problems. Receives guidance based on organizational goals and company policies.
  • Ex. Required to use creative thought for tasks such as when supporting the planning and execution of store events. What products to suggest to help a sick pet.

  • Can directly impact the sales of the store, whether a customer will return, the reputation of the brand, employee morale, and inventory shrinkage.
  • Risk of human rights and employment law infractions if not following training in all aspects of people management.

  • Accomplishes results through a local team and with remote head office and warehouse staff. Required to build relationships with 3rd parties such as customers, local government, vendors, shelters, rescues, etc.

  • Several duties require physical exertion and dexterity. Fine dexterity for typing and handling of cash required on consistent basis. Heavy lifting up to 55lbs required several times throughout a shift. Able to seek relief intermittently throughout the shift.

  • Majority of tasks do not require long periods of mental concentration. One notable exception would be inventory ordering.
  • Active listening required when speaking with customers and employees
  • Active observation required when merchandising the store

Working Conditions Factor: Environment (Frequency of exposure to undesirable conditions like dust, toxic chemicals, odours, extreme heat or cold, noise, vibration, poor weather or lighting, isolation, nature of travel, cross border, irregular hours, overtime, on call, rudeness, profanity, verbal abuse, physical risk; or hazards like risk of accidents, exposure to disease, working with dangerous equipment, hazardous materials.)

  • Works in a relatively temperature-stable environment with little requirement for overtime. May sometimes work alone. May be exposed to infestations and other illnesses/diseases from livestock. Verbal abuse by customers and accidental injuries from pets are possible.
  • Common injuries are slips/trips/falls and strains/sprains due to lifting
