Reporting to the Civil / Structural Department Manager this position can be either in our St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador office or Oakville, Ontario office. If you have a successful track record and thrive on brownfield challenges in a fast-paced environment, this is the opportunity for you.The RoleAs a Structural Designer, you will be part of the structural engineering team delivering projects in the Power and Industrial sectors. This includes structural steel and reinforced concrete drawings for buildings, equipment supports and foundations, substation structures/foundations, pipe racks, pipe supports and other miscellaneous structures.Our Clients and ProjectsDesigning the future. - Utilize a 3D CAD software such as Revit, E3D, CADWorx or 3D AutoCAD for modelling
- Prepare conceptual and detailed design drawings in AutoCAD from above 3D software
- Occasional site visits may be required to remote sites for field measurements
- Ability to take off quantities from drawings/ 3D models
- Ability to follow client requirements for CAD standards
- Coordinating with other designers and engineers and work with external reference files in AutoCAD
- Work in a multi-disciplinary environment and co-operate with other team members
- Prepare drawings in compliance with client CAD standards
- Take responsibility for own work and perform self-check
- Ensure accuracy of drawings for plans, sections, details, dimensioning and annotations

- Diploma of Technology in a Structural program
- Good understanding of drafting fundamentals
- Ability to work efficiently and demonstrate effective organization skills to handle multiple projects and tasks
- Ability to work independently with some supervision. Must be able to start structural modelling on their own with some supervision from engineers
- 7 to 9 years of experience working with 3D modelling software such as Revit/ E3D/ CADWorx / AutoCAD 3D and 2D AutoCAD
- Ability to efficiently produce 2D CAD drawings from 3D models
- Demonstrate previous industrial work experience
- Knowledge of Canadian structural steel and concrete standard designations and nomenclature and typical industrial standards
- Excellent oral and written English communication skills are mandatory
- Authorization to lawfully work in Canada without sponsorship from Wood is required
