At the University of Wolverhampton Students’ Union, we pride ourselves on being there for our diverse student population to help them get the best possible experience in their university lives.One of our key services is our Advice and Representation Centre (ARC) where a team of experienced advisers are on hand either face to face or online every day to provide advice, guidance and support on a wide range of areas that include housing, finance, academic issues, mental health and anything else our student members need.We are now looking to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced person who is enthusiastic about working with students, to lead and manage the work of ARC ensuring that our members continue to receive high quality advice, guidance and representation during their time at the University.This is a truly interesting, satisfying and challenging role where you get to have a real impact on students’ lives and showcase your knowledge and skills in advice casework as well as in organising and motivating a small and committed team.Key duties include

  • Liaising with university staff and advocating on behalf of students with external organisations such as creditors, local authorities and accommodation providers.
  • Ensuring that appropriate quality standards are met in accordance with the requirements of any external regulatory bodies.
  • Ensuring that the service is legally compliant, and that all information held, pertaining to the advice work carried out, is in accordance with the Data Protection Act and internal policies and procedures.
  • Collating and assessing evidence of impact and providing timely and quality reports with a view to improving service offering.
  • Managing front line information point reception services

Our ideal candidate will

  • Be educated to degree level
  • Have a proven track record in managing an advice/advocacy/casework/information provision
  • Have an excellent working understanding of advice work principles such as impartiality, independence and confidentiality
  • Have an understanding of participation and engagement issues in Higher Education and/or voluntary sector(s)
  • Proven ability to conduct one-to-one interviews with clients, manage client relationships, being both approachable and able to relate to a diverse group of people
  • take a constructive and co-operative approach to solving problems and resolving conflict
  • be able analyse complex information and recommend solutions
