The Student Life Advisor will develop student leadership opportunities for NOVA students, student clubs and student organizations. The advisor will work with the Student Life Coordinator to develop training, and recognition programs for student leaders, and coordinates travel, and volunteer opportunities for NVCC students. The advisor will support the Student Life Coordinator in the development of engaging activities including cultural, educational, social, and wellness events.Duties and Tasks:
- Advising students in clubs and organizations on program and event planning, academic and interpersonal issues, and leadership roles.
- Serve as a mediator for interpersonal and organizational conflicts among students or between faculty club advisors and student leaders.
- Assist in managing and reconciling student organization and club accounts.
- Assist the Student Life Coordinator in providing program oversight and travel arrangements for registered student organizations.
- In collaboration with the Coordinator, designs and implements cultural, educational, social and wellness programs.
- Assist Student Life staff as needed and make referrals to campus and community resources as necessary.
- Assists with the development and revision of college-wide Student Life policy manuals and protocols.
- Advises students on club creation, development, and renewals, as well as coordinating recognition and procedural documents required of student clubs and organizations to be in compliance.
**This position is restricted and is funded with non-continuous or non-recurring funding and is subject to continuation based on fiscal year funds and the needs of the collegeMinimum Qualifications:KSAs:
- Knowledge of and skills in computer usage, including Microsoft Office Outlook. and the use of the internet to complete research.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Ability to establish goals and make decisions based on program and institutional policies.
- Ability to communicate effectively with various populations orally and in writing.
- Ability to plan, execute, and assess activities and programs for college students.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of students, faculty and staff members.
- Ability to advise students on program development and management, purchasing, college policies and procedures, and regulations related to student life programming.
- Ability to supervise and work with students and faculty advisors in campus organizations.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a diverse student population.
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends.
- Ability to coordinate and facilitate collaborations with student groups, academic departments, administrative departments, and the community.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, customer service and organizational skills.
- Ability to plan and implement educational and informational programs in a diverse cultural environment.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple projects/events in a fast paced, dynamic work environment.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and implement educational, and informational programs in a diverse cultural environment.
- Working knowledge of current trends in Higher Education, and understanding of social justice issues on college campuses.
Minimum Requirements
- Experience working collaboratively with a wide variety of students and staff members in campus life.
- Event planning experience in an educational setting.
- Experience advising and overseeing student organizations.
- Administrative experience in club management.

- Experience working with college students in student life, student activities, diversity and inclusion/multicultural services, or residential life department.
- Purchasing experience using eVA or a similar purchasing system.
- Experience coordinating and facilitating collaborations with student groups, academic departments, administrative departments, and the community.
Expected salary
$55000 – 65000 per year
