Location: Calgary, ON (Onsite)About the Role:
Global News, a division of Corus Entertainment, has an exciting opportunity available on its award-winning Calgary news team as a Supervising MMC News Producer. Reporting to the Supervisor News Producer, the successful candidate will be responsible for writing, producing, and delivering news content. This role requires the ability to work permanent weekends along with weekday shifts in a dynamic news environment. This is a Group G position under the current Collective Agreement.   • Leads editorial discussions and assign digital journalists each weekend in Alberta.
  • Produce, line-up and write news broadcasts for Calgary and Edmonton, working with teams across Alberta.
  • Produce local news content from video gathered in the field along with affiliate and write national and international content.
  • Troubleshoot challenges and communicate solutions to teams on weekends across the province.
  • Lead breaking news coverage for all platforms and write and produce breaking news content in newscasts on weekends for Alberta.
  • Write packaged and live segments for a variety of news programs for Alberta on weekends.
  • Collaborate with teams to determine editorial direction and content of newscasts.
  • Vet content for all platforms each day.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Skills and experience you will bring:

  • Post-secondary education in journalism, communications, or a related field.
  • A minimum of two years of experience as a news producer and demonstrated.
  • The ability to respond quickly and knowledgeably to breaking news, communicating coverage plans to affiliate.
  • understanding of innovative production techniques and technology.
  • Control room experience is required with preference given to candidates with two years of experience or more.
  • Strong news writing skills.
  • Robust understanding of MMC and OTT workflow.
  • Exemplary communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent news judgement and ability to lead news coverage.
  • Life experience in, and knowledge of, Alberta and various Canadian regions considered an asset.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain creativity in a high-pressure, deadline-oriented environment.
  • Ability to manage the demands and pressure of multiple broadcast deadlines.
  • Ability to work well in a team setting, with teams in various locations.
  • Knowledge of social media tools and technologies (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, etc.), and related applications
  • Knowledge of Grass Valley editing software is an asset.
  • Demonstrates excellent writing and other TV production skills.
  • Demonstrates a high comfort level providing clear constructive feedback.
  • Possesses strong organizational skills.
