Be present when local, national and international news breaks, contributing to innovative storytelling and helping the team solve real-world journalistic challenges.You will contribute by:
- Lead a team of software developers and promote growth, innovation, and efficiency in managing and delivering web content.
- Implement technical strategies for Globalnews.ca and our network of radio websites that align with the latest industry trends and business objectives.
- Establish and maintain best practices in coding and development processes for WordPress and ensure compliance with accessibility and security standards.
- Collaborate with News leadership and the technology team to investigate, plan and coordinate projects that enhance the impact and reach of our journalism.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation outlining features, functionalities, technical specifications, and developer guides to support both internal team alignment and developer onboarding.
Skills and experience you will bring
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent
- 5 + years of relevant software development experience with a track record of building responsive web experiences that seamlessly transition across browsers and devices.
- Strong leadership and team management abilities with experience guiding a team towards achieving goals.
- Fluent knowledge of modern front-end technologies, primarily JavaScript ES6, HTML, and CSS/SCSS, as well as webpack, npm, JSON, and Git version control.
- Proficiency in full-stack development, including but not limited to PHP, Node.js, cloud services and managing performance through caching.
- Adaptability and openness to change, with a willingness to embrace new technologies and methodologies as the digital landscape evolves.
- Experience developing on WordPress VIP Go platform and React.
- A good understanding of Google AMP, Amazon Alexa, or Apple News.
- Experience with Ad Integration (DFP, GPT) and/or Metrics (Adobe Analytics, Permutive).
- Interest in the product-side of digital news media.
- Passion for journalism and / or visual storytelling.
