We are looking for a highly capable mass spectrometrist to manage our team at the GSK site at our UK R&D hub at Stevenage (Hertfordshire, UK). The team sits within our Discovery Biology department and provides proteomics and mass spectrometry expertise across GSK’s global Research and Drug Discovery (R&D) functions. The Biological MS group uses world-class expertise coupled with state-of-the-art technologies to explore target biology, discover and profile new molecules and understand the impact of these molecules in living systems.As Team Lead you will join GSK’s Discovery Biology department to manage the Biological Mass Spectrometry group (of circa 4 direct reports). The team of scientists apply mass spectrometry-based capabilities in support of biology, chemical biology, and biochemistry across the global discovery network.Key Responsibilities (include)..,Managing the Biological MS team (in the UK) to deliver decision making data at pace to support programs in Discovery.Managing site specific and global collaborative efforts to evaluate and implement new capabilities and technologies.Act as subject matter expert (SME) representing Discovery Biology in discussions with project teams and therapeutic area and platform technology scientists.Act as a liaison to US Biological MS and Discovery Biology teams.Provide leadership through effective feedback, coaching, mentoring, and training to influence cultural change to deliver the strategic priorities. This includes creating an environment that stimulates, develops, and promotes the scientific and career development of others.Location: Please note that this position is located at our UK R&D hub at Stevenage (Hertfordshire).About You:The successful applicant must have an in-depth practical and theoretical understanding of mass spectrometry and how it can be applied in cell biology and biochemistry. You will think creatively to answer complex scientific questions, as well as have strong interpersonal skill suited to developing a team (who will be working in a complex interdisciplinary matrix environment). You will be resilient, with a proven ability to deliver and solve problems.
