To assist Member States to : 1) prevent and reduce disease, disability and premature morbidity and mortality resulting from mental and psychosocial disorders, and 2) To promote healthy lifestyles across genders and all strata of the community to enable community members to develop enhanced self-confidence and resilience to psycho social stresses and recovery from such.
Duties:
Under the overall supervision of Regional Adviser -MHS and also under the guidance and support of Director, Healthier Populations and Noncommunicable Diseases(HPN), the incumbent will carry out the following duties:
- To work with Member States, relevant units, and partners in developing tools and guidance to improve mental health and to address autism spectrum disorders;
- To work with Member States and partners in developing national strategies and plans for mental health, autism spectrum disorders and neurodevelopmental conditions;
- To work with Member States and partners in strengthening integration of mental health and related services across the health system, and into emergency preparedness, response and recovery plans;
- To provide technical contribution in preparing the Regional Status Report/s, governing bodies and other documentation on mental health and related areas;
- To liaise with concerned technical units/departments/WCOs and provide technical contribution in documenting and sharing the regional best practices in mental health promotion and management of mental health conditions;
- To assist in implementing the GPW 14 workplan including organizing regional workshops and preparing meeting reports; and
- To perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications:
Education
Essential:
- A Master’s Degree in Psychology/Public Health/preventive and social medicine from a recognized university
Experience:
Essential:
- At least seven(7) years of relevant experience, some of which should have been obtained in aninternational context in working in the field of public health in low-andmiddle-income country settings as well as at managerial level in the preventionand control of NCDs.
Skills:
- Technical and managerial competencies in public health for mental health and related areas Well-versed in community-based health initiatives Leadership skills and ability to establish harmonious relationships with government officials
Language Skills:
Essential:
- Expert knowledge of English.
