Why this job mattersFlexible working, 3 days a week together in our Belfast or Darlington office (flexible 2 days remote wherever)Technology product ownership is key to managing the design, delivery, performance and evolution of one of the key telco product families that underpin Consumer’s £10bn annual revenue (Broadband, Voice TV, Sport, Mobile, Convergence). Commerical product ownership and customer experience sits within the Consumer CFU but the solution roadmap, technology partner relationships, delivery and in-life cost and evolution of the products from a technical and architectural point of view is within Consumer CIO. The Technology Product Owner role works with colleagues in Consumer Sales, Service, Products and Marketing teams to develop and deliver and continuously evolve the product roadmap. While the role is based in Consumer CIO it will need to work across the entirety of CDIO and Service Platforms as needed to ensure product and technical plans are aligned.The immediate assignmentThe role holder will be responsible for one or a small number of strategic applications/products that will deliver key business outcomes to support a successful consumer strategy. This will involve identifying opportunities with consumer business owners then creating and owning a backlog through to design, development and delivery of strategic applications. The TPO will ensure the resources are engaged to manage and coordinate the delivery of technical solutions on behalf of our customers, and manage the relationships between the Consumer teams and our delivery partners. The role holder will work closely with a wide array of stakeholders and CIO resources including: Enterprise Architects, Solutions Architects/Designers, Delivery/Project Managers, Scrum Masters, Developers/SW Engineers, QA/Testers. This will incorporate both internal and 3rd party supplied resources.What you’ll be doing
- Translate desired business outcomes, including component, process, and system simplification, into a product backlog and roadmap that realises the strategic technology end state
- Definition of best technical solution to deliver desired features and optimise cost-benefit, delivery timescales and whole life costs
- Partner with key stakeholders across Consumer CFU, CDO, CIO and Service Platforms to define requirements and ensure end to end delivery is effective and efficient
- Accountable for the costing of the product roadmap, articulation of formal and detailed business case projections and delivery against agreed budget and timeline
- Assess industry trends and perform research to identify new technologies and suppliers that could add value
- Collaborate with the business to generate opportunities to improve ways of working through better use of technology and co-create cost/benefits cases to take forward
- Influence decision making to ensure product simplification portfolio objectives are achieved
- Work closely with front door/business performance & planning to ensure accurate assessment of demand and required funding
- Prioritise the product roadmap and backlog to maximise the value of engineering team effort by ensuring the sequencing of features over time delivers optimal economic outcomes
- Meet customer, commercial and technical outcomes for Consumer, ensuring the scope of the product release delivers key capabilities on time and on budget
Specific Skills and Experience
- Technology Experience: Technical expertise in developing and managing technical products and platforms in-life. Comfortable in engaging and influencing technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Agile Experience: Previously experience of working in an agile environment e.g. SCRUM
- Delivery Experience: Proven experience of delivering complex technical solutions in a diverse environment, including with teams on-shore, off-shore and from partner organisations
- Commercial & Risk Awareness: Experience in evaluation of the obvious and subtle commercial risks/issues/challenges especially in relation to a programme/project. Experience in determining the appropriate commercial solutions
- Domain Experience : clear understanding of the sales and service domains and the complexities within
