Job Description:Vice President – Ocean Freight – EuropeAbout the RoleDP World are recruiting for a VP of Ocean Freight to lead the European region. Reporting to the COO Freight, Europe this role is responsible for developing and managing the ocean freight organisation and capability which at its end-state offers a best-in-class network and experience to our clients and customers. Including putting in place our branch office / agency operations model and leading the standardisation and optimisation of processes across the business to ensure efficiency, scalability, and quality.How you will contributeBuild operational and product ocean freight capabilities that is scalable and of high quality.

  • Lead the development and creation of the ocean freight network and the corresponding branch offices in Europe. Ramp up new locations.
  • Obtain all licenses and certification to ensure compliance with rules and regulation, such as NVOCC (SSL) and ensure it is always compliant with rules and regulations.
  • Integrate processes and stakeholders connected to the Ocean product, including dray trucking, rail network, and other modes of operations.
  • Work with finance teams to create pricing and profit share models for the various modes of transportation and ensure effective Intercompany Billing processes.
  • Review and develop processes for transitioning into new logistics business units and future agents.
  • Work with commercial and operations for the implementation of the solutions.

Lead overall product, pricing & procurement planning of DP World Ocean Freight in Europe.

  • Lead and deliver on strategic alliances with carriers.
  • Build carrier relationships.
  • Lead Regional Ocean Freight Procurement efforts.
  • Product P&L accountability (geography in the lead – matrix organization).
  • Management of any central Ocean Freight Units – such as multi-country consolidations (Hubs).
  • Lead and steer the design & implementation of a European LCL Product.
  • Lead the European Ocean Freight Team (Direct Reports).

Support customer activity to help close conversions.

  • Build and manage strong collaborative relationships with all stakeholders connecting our business units with Ocean capability know-how and alignment of trade-lane strategy.
  • Collaborate with tender and solution teams to offer competitive offerings to actual / potential customers.
  • Participate in customer meetings when specific technical capabilities are required.
  • Work with the commercial and operations for the implementation of agency solutions contributing to the management of all countries globally.

Support M&A in the field of ocean freight forwarding to accelerate growth plans.What you will bring

  • A senior professional – Minimum 15 years’ senior management experience within Freight Forwarding and Logistics who has covered all facets of Ocean Freight in previous career.
  • Proven track record in general management, preferably in a multinational environment. He or she will have significant experience in managing cross-functionals team and will have demonstrated success and accountability for results.
  • Successful management of all key stakeholder relationships including shareholders and external government agencies.
  • Advanced knowledge of logistics process and security procedures and protocols pertaining to freight forwarding. Focus is on ocean freight but a sound understanding of the entire logistics industry will be a benefit.
  • Aware of new developments in the industry including index-based pricing, client carrier contracts, marketplaces / platforms, new risk management tools and a clear understanding of digital transformation
  • Ability to benchmark with industry to evaluate and assess / manage business operations and opportunities.
  • Strong negotiator and a self-starter with the ability to adapt to stressful environments by using a sociable but firm approach, as well as engendering trust and integrity.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to motivate, develop and encourage others to positively contribute to business goals and objectives.
  • High level analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong commitment to client service excellence with the ability to build solid relationships.
  • Experience in navigating structures, bureaucracies, and decision-making systems of large multinational corporations.
