The video player team features a collection of high specialist engineers that blend both best practices of software engineering and digital video knowledge together.The roleAs a Video Player Engineer, you will be responsible for developing, and optimising our video player for the ITVx video streaming platform. Your expertise will help enhance the user experience by ensuring smooth playback and seamless integration with various devices and platforms.Skills you’ll need (minimum criteria)

  • Active open source contributor to a major video streaming project (Shaka, Bento, video.js).
  • Has worked on previous large react projects and understands the challenges of how a video play works alongside a react framework.
  • Previous experience with dealing with ad-blockers, and finding ways to circumnavigate them.
  • Understands the basics of video codecs (H.264, H.265, VP9, AV1).
  • Video stream transcoding and packaging techniques.

Other things we’re looking for (key criteria)

  • Proven experience in video player development, preferably in the streaming industry.
  • Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Javascript and Typescript.
  • In-depth knowledge of streaming protocols (HLS, MPEG-DASH, DVB-DASH) and adaptive streaming techniques.
  • Familiarity with video player frameworks and libraries (Shaka, TheoPlayer) is highly desirable.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical team members.
  • Familiarity with Server-Side Ad Insertion (SSAI) and Client-side Ad Insertion (CSAI).
  • Previous experiences of using VAST (Video Ad Serving Template).
  • Must be willing to learn new technologies and languages to support our application needs regarding playback and telemetry.
  • Possesses knowledge of CDN configuration, and can independently resolve issues and enhance overall system performance.
  • Understanding of various DRM technologies PlayReady, Widevine and Fairplay and their associated different levels L1/3 SL2000/3000.
