Context:
IOM’s Displacement Tracking Matrix regularly monitors displacement and mobility across Sudan, including the needs and movement intentions of displaced populations, in order to provide humanitarian partners with accurate information in order to facilitate programming.
Under the overall supervision of the Head of Programmes and the Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) Program Coordinator and the direct supervision of the DTM Data Analyst, the incumbent will be responsible for supporting the Information Management and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Unit with relevant functions relating to DTM activities.
Core Functions / Responsibilities:
- Support the collection, processing, and review of geographic data, including vector, raster, and thematic information; assist in the creation of large-scale operational maps and small-scale briefing/report maps.
- Assist with spatial data analysis to support the generation of geographic statistics for inclusion in documents and reports.
- Provide support in the creation, updating, and distribution of geographic information and maps to help the mission’s operations, utilizing GIS software and associated equipment.
- Support, identify and analyze existing GIS systems and structure capacity, availability of relevant datasets, and data and information gaps.
- Support the designing of effective solutions to meet GIS-related needs in an accurate and timely manner.
- Regularly update GIS and related information systems and databases, incorporating expertise in spatial feature representations.
- Operate and upkeep GIS system hardware, software, plotters, and color printers.
- Provide guidance and assist in monitoring the work of other staff in the unit.
- Conduct spatial data analysis to generate geographic statistics for inclusion in documents and reports.
- Assist in creating infographics and visual content to support the effective communication of geographic and spatial data in reports using ArcGIS, QGIS, and Adobe InDesign and Adobe illustrator.
- Help prepare and design ad hoc, bi-weekly, bi-monthly, Early Flash Alert, and Focused Flash Alert reports, verifying they are clear, concise, and visually engaging.
- Collaborate with other teams to understand their design needs, including report layout design, and provide tailored visual solutions for geographic reports.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Education
- University degree in Geospatial technologies (GIS and remote sensing), Computer Science, Information Design with four years of relevant experience, or High school diploma with at least six years of progressively responsible experience.
Experience
- Experience in geographic information, Information Management and Data Visualization.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of graphic design.
- In-depth knowledge of and expertise in a wide range of Adobe Creative Suite software applications including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Acrobat, as well as Microsoft office applications (w/ valid application licenses.

Languages
