DescriptionThis full-time role has a starting salary of £35,730 per annum based on a 36-hour working week.This is a fixed term contract or secondment opportunity until 31st March 2026.This role is open to hybrid working and as a team we split our time between working from home and collaborating together in the office two days per week.Do you believe in the impact physical activity can have on health and wellbeing? About the TeamWe are Active Surrey. We are one of 43 national Active Partnerships funded by Sport England to tackle inactivity which is driven by inequalities. We believe in the power of physical activity and the benefits it can offer: a mood booster, a confidence lifter, a social enhancer and a life extender.Less than half Surrey’s children and young people are doing enough physical activity every week, which falls to only 4 out of 10 children amongst lower-income families. In addition, 3 out of 10 Surrey adults aren’t doing enough, rising to over 4 out of 10 amongst those earning less.That’s why we need YOU to join our Movement for Change!Help us challenge and change the status quo to get more people moving.Help us create a fairer, better and healthier future for everyone.About the RoleIn this role, you will set up and create our Physical Activity Adviser (PAA) service – part of Surrey County Council’s new ‘Workwell’ programme. As 1 of 15 pilot vanguard sites, Surrey’s Workwell programme aims to get those signed off with a fit note back into work via a variety of support, including that of a PAA. This service will encourage more people who need it most to realise the benefits of moving more for their health and wellbeing.This will be a very interesting and varied role where you will be involved in the following:

  • Collaborating to devise what PAA sessions will look like in terms of support, resources and signposting- including in the community
  • Ensuring service equity across Surrey
  • Coordinating training and support for all PAAs
  • Managing SLAs with leisure operators (employing the PAAs)
  • Attending wider Workwell meetings
  • Setting up systems to capture and report on targets

Reporting into the Head of Health, you’ll develop excellent relationships with leisure operators, and oversee the borough Physical Activity Advisers. You will work very closely with the rest of the Active Surrey organisation, with SCC’s Communities and Prevention Team, as well as Social Prescribers and other local partners.You’ll love this job if:

Shortlisting CriteriaTo be considered for shortlisting for this position, your CV and personal statement will clearly evidence the following:

  • Significant Programme Management experience
  • Excellent communication, influencing and interpersonal skills, with strong attention to detail
  • Good knowledge of physical activity and its impact
  • An understanding of behaviour change as well as the wider determinants of health
  • A proactive self starter with excellent computer skills including Excel, Word, SharePoint, PowerPoint
  • An ability to prioritise and manage a varied workload
